Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

HP Officejet Pro 8720
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have used my Scan to Network Folder since i got the 8720, over a year ago.  About a month ago, the scan to Network Folder stopped working.  Nothing had changed that I am aware of.

When I test, I get the message "The printer is unable to connect to the remote destination. Check your configurations and try again."

Scanning from the HP Smart application works fine.  Scan to computer (the same PC) works fine.

The share folder on the PC is accessible from other devices without any issue.

Account details entered and checked again and again.

I have reset the network settings, reset the printer to factory defaults.

I have tested with specific computer IP, and the computers name.

I have even disabled windows firewall on the PC.

I have reinstalled the drivers, software, everything.

Still the same message.

I scan a lot and need the prefix/suffix feature of scan to network folder.  This has me driven crazy.

Hi! @diggerdigger, Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums!

I understand you have issues scan to network folder from your PC.

Don't worry I'd like to help you out.

Did you make any changes to your printer?

As you mentioned scan to network folder has stopped functioning on your PC.

Please also try going to the Shared folder, right-click it and select Properties.

Open the Sharing tab and click the Share button, ensure both the user and everyone have Read & Write control and press OK.

Press on Advanced Sharing and ensure it is set as shared within there too, then click on Permissions and ensure that both the User and Everyone have full control.

Confirm the changes and return to the shared folder Properties.

Open the Security tab and ensure that both your user and Everyone have write control within that tab as well, then close the dialog by pressing OK.

Open the HP printer software. For more information, see Open the HP printer software (Windows). 2. Click Scan under Print, Scan & Fax , and then click Scan to Network Folder Wizard. 3. Follow the onscreen instructions. NOTE: After you have created destination folders, you can use the printer’s embedded web server (EWS) to customize the scan settings for these folders. On the last screen of the Scan to Network Folder Wizard, make sure the Launch embedded web server when finished check box is selected. When you click Finish, the EWS is displayed in your computer’s default web browser. For more information about EWS, see Embedded web server.

Refer the user guide to know more information about the scan to network folder.

Note: Refer page 12 for more information

So, these are the basic setup steps. All were followed. re-followed previously.  And Refollowed now just to be sure.  Same result.  "The printer is unable to connect to the remote destination. Check your configurations and try again."

This just stopped working.  No other device, phone, tablet or other computer at home has any issues connecting to the share, using the same account.  Just this printer. Nothing changed.  same account, same dns, same everything.

The share has been in place as such for over a year, and before that with a previous HP model for about 3 years.

Hi @diggerdigger,

It looks like you were interacting with @A4Apollo, but he is out for the day & I'll be glad to help you out,

Please try the steps below to try and assign a public DNS address. Here are the steps:

•    Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to get the IP address.
•    Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
•    Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.
•    Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
•    Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.
•    Click on radio button which says “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)

Now, try to setup the scan to email as suggested below:

  1. Go to the printer EWS page.
  2. Click the Scan tab, click Network Folder Setup, and then click New.
  3. Enter a folder name. This is the name that will display on the printer control panel for the folder you will select to send scans to.
  4. Enter the network folder path that you want scans saved to.
  5. Enter your Windows User Name and Password. You must have administrative rights to the computer or server that hosts the network folder.
  6. Click Next, and then enter a security PIN to restrict access to this folder from the printer control panel, if desired.
  7. Specify any scan settings, and then click Save and test or Save to complete the folder configuration.

Those steps should do the trick, let me know the outcome!

No, Im afraid assigning a direct IP and google as DNS did not work.  Still the same message "The printer is unable to connect to the remote destination. Check your configurations and try again."  I get this whether i use the ip address for the serer, or the server name, so i dont think DNS.   Other devices work fine connecting to both the IP and name withthe same credentials.  its just this printer.

@diggerdigger,

I see that you are having issues with scan to network folder not working. To use Scan to Network Folder, you must have created and configured the folder you are using on a computer connected to the network. You cannot create a folder from the printer's control panel. Also, make sure the folder preferences are set to provide read and write access.

Once done, try the steps below:

  • Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to get the IP address.
  • Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
  • On the Home tab, click Network Folder Setup in the Setup box.
  • Click New, and then follow the onscreen instructions.
  • After you have entered the required information about the network folder, click Save and Test to make sure the link to the network folder is working correctly. The entry is added to the Network Folder list.

Keep me posted,

If the information I've provided was helpful,

give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.

Hi @diggerdigger,

As I understand you have tried the steps suggested and still having the issue. I would personally suggest the next step would be to perform an advanced reset on the printer.

Let's first try to perform an advanced reset on the printer and once done, let's try to setup the scan to network folder.

To use Scan to Network Folder, you must have created and configured the folder you are using on a computer connected to the network.

You cannot create a folder from the printer's control panel.

Also, make sure the folder preferences are set to provide read and write access.

Open the HP Printer Software.

Double-click Scanner Actions, and then double-click Scan to Network Folder Wizard.

Follow the onscreen instructions.

Click here and follow the steps mentioned in page 12 & 13.

I am sending you a private message with the steps to reset the printer. Please check the mailbox icon at the top-right corner of this screen.

Please check your Private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Forums profile,

Next, to your profile Name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.

Please reply back on the public post as this Private message box is not monitored.

I hope this helps resolve this issue completely,

Regards,

If you have a password for the router, then it's the same here as well, If it is not, Check the router for the password.

If you hasn't, You may also try "admin" for admin and the password box and try it. 🙂
