I am having issues connecting my lab top using wifi direct. I can get connected using my iPhone but when I try on computer it recognizes printer but when it tries to connect it does not ask for password and then says that it cannot connect to network. I am fairly computer illiterate so am totally lost.

I understand that you are unable to connect your HP ENVY Photo 7100 through WiFi-Direct.
I'd like to help.
Let's start with a Printer Reset.
(1) Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
(2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
(3) With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
(4) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
(5) Wait at least 60 seconds.
(6) Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
(7) Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
(8) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
- Please download and run the Full Feature Software on your computer. You can click this Link to download the Software. Select Wireless when prompted by the printer software for a connection type.
- Make sure you have turned on Wi-Fi Direct on the printer.
- From the printer control panel, touch or swipe down the tab at the top of the screen to open the Dashboard, and then touch (Wi-Fi Direct). Touch ( Settings ). If the display shows that Wi-Fi Direct is Off , turn on Wi-Fi Direct.
- Turn on the computer's Wi-Fi connection.
- From the computer, connect to a new network. Use the process you normally use to connect to a new wireless network or hotspot. Choose the Wi-Fi Direct name from the list of wireless networks shown such as DIRECT-**- HP ENVY Photo-7100 (where ** are the unique characters to identify your printer). Enter the Wi-Fi Direct password when prompted.
- Try printing.
