In my case, it turns out the issue was a hardware failure. Over a few more days after I posted above, the problem became progressively worse, and the ghosting started showing on the safe-boot and bios screens.

Took it to a local HP-authorized repair facility.  They replaced the screen and all is now well.  The cost was $450, and this even though the replacement part was used (apparently new parts are not available).

Thankfully in our case, the laptop was purchased with a credit card that doubles the manufacturer warranty so we were reimbursed for the repair despite the fact that the machine was 18-months old.

Hi, I had this exact problem less than 8 months ago and had to send it to HP for them to replace my screen. Fast forward to now and the same exact problem is back. It clearly was not a permanent fix (was working fine since they fixed it until now). Along with this issue, sometimes if you turn the brightness too low the screen will bug out

Hello HP,

I NEED YOUR HELP URGENTLY

I really need your help right now. This morning I can't get my personal laptop's screen to work at all anymore.

Before, that going to sleep mode or rebooting could sometimes temporarily have it returned to usable -- not anymore.

1/ Screen permanently died (flickering, unusable), can get to BIOS because but can't see what's on the screen

IMG_8246.jpg

2/ Trackpad buttons are dead (the bulk underneath got so bad you can't click anymore)

Exactly like:

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Bulging-Trackpad-on-HP-Spectre...

3/ Left speaker is damaged

Similar to:

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Audio/Crackling-Left-Speaker-on-Brand-New-HP-Spectre-x360/td-...

Now, I'm still under warranty until October 2020 in the USA.

My company moved me to Tokyo last July.

My company is in lockdown in California.

This is a $1,730 laptop that is 2.5 years old and unususable.

Given the very unusual conditions, could HP make good on their reputation and allow HP Japan to cover for the multiple defects?

Regards,

Julien

I have the same issue unfortunately. Ghosting so bad now that the bios can not be viewed. Used HP PC Hardware Diagnostics tool, passed system test and video competent test.

It's getting worse, and I don't have a good back up computer.

Please help.

Purchased it about 20 months ago.

I have a HP Spectre x360 - 15t-bl100 CTO

In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.

@Praveen196 thank you for the welcome

Unfortunately none of the options in the article you linked seem to apply.

My computer was working fine until about five months ago, still within my extended 18 month warranty. The screen issue wasn't bad at first, and I thought it was a software issue. I am not so sure now.

No hardware changes.

Minor software additions.

2. Shows when it is working well, but still has some ghosting

3. Bios always looks this way.

4. What restarting looks like after I try to see Bios.

It will usually work reasonably again after a cold restart.

@nedroj

Thank you for the update.

Please update the graphics drivers and update the BIOS.

If the issue still persists, please perform the system reset.

Have a nice day!!

I too remained convinced it was a software issue for a long time.  But then it started showing on the BIOS screen and eventually all screens became unreadable.  While none of us wanted to hear this, it is apparently a hardware issue only resolved by an expensive screen replacement.  The longer you wait, the longer you are putting off the inevitable.

Could you please stop with the canned/template "Please update the BIOS and the Drivers or reset your machine"?
It feels like you are trying to avoid answering/addressing the problem.

We tried that already multiple times all the obvious steps.

No difference.

Screen only improves if you let the laptop cool down for a few hours.

This is HARDWARE related. The screen is faulty and it affects multiple people.

Please escalate to your management in HP USA HQ (not to the support desk) that the Spectre x360 have faulty screens.

Thank you.

Julien
