I have an HP OfficeJetPro 8035. It has brand new HP cartridges in it. It registers that these are installed and full, but it will only print in black and white, even when color is selected. I have tried cleaning the cartridges and their contacts, running diagnostics, and restarting the printer.

Hi @abuck611,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds frustrating that your HP OfficeJet Pro 8035 isn’t printing in color despite having new cartridges. Here are some steps you can try to resolve this issue:
1. Check Color Settings
- Ensure that your print settings are configured for color printing. In the print dialog, check that "Color" is selected instead of "Grayscale" or "Black and White."
2. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor
- Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor. This tool can help identify and fix issues with printing and scanning.
3. Update Printer Drivers
- Ensure you have the latest printer drivers installed. Visit the HP support website to download the most current drivers for your model.
4. Perform a Printer Reset
- Try a hard reset:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Wait for about 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn it on.
5. Check for Firmware Updates
- Make sure your printer's firmware is up to date. You can check for updates through the HP Smart app or the printer's control panel.
6. Inspect Ink Cartridges
- Remove and reseat the ink cartridges to ensure they’re properly connected. Check for any protective tape or packaging that might still be on the cartridges.
7. Clean Printhead
- Use the printer’s maintenance menu to run a printhead cleaning cycle. This can help if the printhead is clogged.
8. Try a Test Print from Another Application
- Sometimes specific applications can have their own settings. Try printing a color document from a different program (e.g., Word, Paint).
9. Check Color Options in the HP Smart App
- If you’re using the HP Smart app, ensure that the color options are set correctly within the app settings.
10. Factory Reset
- If all else fails, consider performing a factory reset on the printer. Note that this will restore all settings to default.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
