HP Printer states HP Ink cartridge is non-HP

Put new ink cartridges in (HP 910 cartridges) and my printer says the magenta cartridge does not have an HP chip... but the other 2 from the same package were accepted by the printer with no issue. Restarted and got the same message.

Most likely the contacts are corroded or dirty with dried ink.

Some printers have a printhead cleaning procedure.

To clean the printhead on an HP printer, access the printer settings through the HP Smart app, navigate to "Print Quality Tools," and select "Clean Printhead"; this will initiate a cleaning cycle where the printer will automatically run a cleaning process to clear any clogs in the printhead

Consumer inkjet printer printheads typically last for several years, with some lasting up to 10 years or even longer. However, the lifespan can vary greatly depending on usage, maintenance, and environmental factors.

There is a possibility the cartridge is defective especially if it is a refill.

It will have a warranty whether refilled or not. To check if an HP ink cartridge is genuine, look for a security label on the cartridge, scan the QR code on the label with your phone, and then go to HP's website hp.com/go/ok to verify the serial number on the label; if the label appears tampered or the serial number doesn't validate, the cartridge is likely not genuine.
