None of the recent updates have fixed the issue.  My guess is this is going to take a while to diagnose, fix, test and release.

The wait continues.

Thanks for that info.  I’ll give it a try.

Google has been slowing shutting down access through “less secure apps” for Google Workspace users (like me) and I’m wondering if all this is related.

Wanted to chime in as another affected person from this issue. This is such an oversight by Google and it should be easy to whitelist HP Smart as a trusted app requesting sign-in, or at the least, allow an app-specific password to be used.

My case:
Cannot connect my Google Drive through HP Smart Shortcuts, as the app is being blocked despite a valid, 2FA-approved sign-on. App-specific password was created and is being ignored by Google's sign-on prompt (forcibly requests main Google Account credentials).

Waiting and bumping.

I cannot figure out how to get traction with HP or Google on this major issue. I spent hours on support with HP who insisted I was doing everything wrong (even though it has been working fine for months).

I've submitted cases to Google and HP with no response.

Honestly, my 10 year old Canon worked better than this HP. HP ecosystem looks like it was written by 20 teams who don't talk to each other. There shouldn't be 3 ways to do everything, each different and each at odds with the other.

Anyone from HP listening who might want to fix the newly broken HPSMART ecosystem? Anyone?

Does not appear as though anyone is interested. I also cannot get my drive connected. Scan to email works, but connecting the Google drive is blocked. I can scan to email or scan to my computer and upload to drive that way, but uploading directly to drive is slightly less work. Lol at least there's still a way to get it there though

I suspect this fix is going to take a while to address.  Let's assume that HP just recently became aware of this; It's going to take time to assess, schedule, implement, test, and release updates to the software. In this case, this is complicated by the fact that there is a third party involved, Google, whose security requirements they must comply with.

And so the wait continues.

Unfortunately this has nothing to do with the client apps (macos, windows, ios). You can reproduce it 100% at admin.hpsmart.com.

This issue seems to be that whatever hpsmart [cloud service] is asking google drive [cloud service] for permission to do is suddenly [last 90 days] being rejected by Google.

The solution must lie either in the settings of particular google accounts, or in HP updating how it's cloud service connects to google cloud service.

Hopefully, people here will stop telling other users what they are doing wrong in google smart, or how they need to reinstall whatever. it is not a app problem, it is a problem between two cloud servers we have no access to.

I would love to hear from people for whom scanning direct to google cloud is still working. Mine was working fine and then stopped sometime in July or August with no intentional change to hpsmart or google account. If you are a real glutton for punishment, then remove your google cloud connections completely through admin.hpsmart.com and try re-adding them. I bet you can't. If you can, then hopefully we can figure out what is different about your google cloud account - you are the rosetta stone!

Executive summary:

  1. It broke sometime during the summer of 2024
  2. HP needs to update how their cloud server tries linking to the google cloud account
  3. it has nothing to do with the printer or the hpsmart app - you can reproduce it at admin.hpsmart.com. Don't waste your time troubleshooting printer or apps like I and many others have.
  4. There MAY be a way to configure your google account to allow it to work, but nobody has yet identified what that is. Some people claim theirs is still working, but I'm skeptical (and hopeful at the same time?)
  5. HP has not visibly expressed any interest in solving this, or even acknowledged the problem.
  6. If anyone knows how to configure a google account to allow this connection, many here would love to see it!
