I had tried updating the software before with only partial success (I was able to print, but not scan, and the error messages still appeared). However by following the 'belt & braces' advice and UNINSTALLING the software FIRST before reinstalling, it now works perfectly again!

I finally got through after and hours wait and they wanted to charge me $20 to fix their error that they cant even put up here as a fix (the one on here does not work). I told them I was not interested as they could not give me a guarentee that it would work and the fee was non refundable!!!!

I have the same issue, HP support truly sucks, I called the 800 number and all they do is refer you to the website for support which tells you nothing. They want your serial number and if you are out of warranty they want you to pay but don't let you know how to do that. I'm in a real quandry. I guess I will trash a perfectly new HP Laser Printer and buy another brand. Canon, Brother any suggestions. HP is fast going downhill. They need a real CEO.

My contact with Apple has been very helpful and they walked me through the HP upgrade program. Apple finally had to concede that HP had failed to respond to they notification of operating system update having had plenty of notice to do so. The good news is that I can now use the printer but only after cancelling the warning notices several times. This is a wake=up call for HP if they wish to hold on to their market share of printer supply.

I deleted com.hp.devicemonitor.plist from ~Library/LaunchAgents and (knock on wood) the alert is gone!
I just did this by finding the file in the "FINDER" search feature. I deleted it, re-booted, and it has not re-appeared. It is in trash if it turns out I need to put in back. ThanksTm from entry #7n on this thread.
