This is a "resurrection" of the following existing threads about the very same issue here:

and at least one on Reddit:
Given:
- Product Name: HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911g
- Product Model Number: CM750A
- Current Firmware Version: CKP1CN1829AR
It is now 2025 and even after four years of the 2011A (CLP1CN2011AR according to the downloaded OJP8600_N911g-n_2011A.exe file) firmware release i'm not able to apply / install it to my printer because the installer provided at https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/hp-officejet-pro-8600-plus-e-all-in-one-printer-series-n911/mod... (OJP8600_N911g-n_2011A.exe) is finding the printer but shows the update as "not applicable".
Things i have tried so far:
- Factory reset (also from that "hidden" maintenance menu) of the whole printer
- Used USB connection instead of a LAN connection
- The "VerifyDownloadID=0" trick to edit the EnterpriseDU.ini which seems to have work for other printers but failed here
- Tried to "force" the update of the firmware via a printer share and uploading the .ful file by following https://web.archive.org/web/20241223071317/https://nullsec.us/force-hp-firmware-install/
but failed miserable so far. Any additional hints would be highly appreciated.
Btw. i really can't understand why HP hasn't managed to provide a working firmware update / updater in all these years (and it should be known as one of the linked threads above has 105 replies).
@hp support: I don't need any "restart your computer", "reset printer" or similar hints because these have been already provided in the threads above and none of these hints helped.
Can you please escalate this accordingly to get the firmware update / updater finally fixed so that you don't have firmware updates published which can't be used / installed at all?
Thanks

Hi @UIGDxTXZs6dJXtF,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you've already gone through a lot of troubleshooting steps to get the firmware update applied to your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 N911g, and you're dealing with an issue that has frustrated. Since the "not applicable" error persists even after trying the standard fixes, here are a few additional approaches you can try.
Check Printer's Current Firmware Version:
- Before attempting another update, confirm the current firmware version installed on the printer. You can do this by printing a configuration page directly from the printer's menu. This will help verify if the firmware is already up-to-date or if there’s a mismatch.
Check Compatibility:
- Make sure the firmware version you're trying to install (2011A) is indeed compatible with your specific printer model. There might be slight variations in model numbers or configurations that the installer might not support, even though it appears to work in other cases.
Use the HP Firmware Updater Utility:
- If you haven't tried this already, you can use the HP Firmware Updater Utility to check for updates. This tool sometimes handles the installation better than running the firmware file directly. You can download it from HP's official website or try to locate it in your HP support resources.
Try Using a Different Computer:
- It might sound basic, but testing the update on a different machine could rule out potential issues with your current system setup. Sometimes, the environment or OS settings on the original computer can interfere with the installation.
Check for a Newer Firmware Version:
- The 2011A firmware release may be outdated by now, and HP could have released a more recent update (which might fix the compatibility issue you're facing). Check if there’s a newer version on the HP support site for your printer model.
Manual Firmware Installation via USB:
- Some users have successfully updated their firmware using a USB stick. This typically requires downloading the firmware file, saving it to the USB drive, and then inserting it into the printer's USB port to install the update manually. Follow the exact instructions for your model (sometimes detailed in the printer's manual or support page).
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

This is actually my model / serial number etc:
and following / clicking on it leads me to https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/hp-officejet-pro-8600-plus-e-all-in-one-printer-series-n911/mod... with the following content and which is the content about most people / users in the above linked threads are complaining about:
Currently i think this can't be fixed / solved on user side or is out of the control of the user and it is more likely that:
- a correct firmware but a broken firmware updater has been published for this model / printer
- a wrong firmware / firmware updater has been published for this model / printer
- there is no more current firmware update available for this model / printer and the support page above provides wrong info about the availability
and the only one who can fix this situation is HP itself.

Hey,
i really appreciate your responses so thanks first.
For transparency reasons: The suggestion was to contact the phone support bu that will be probably not much of a help here, there are tons of users with the same problem so i think HP would need to review and maybe re-test / verify the published firmware against the printer model in question directly in their lab (if that is even possible).

Only informational (and to avoid that this topic is getting closed too early like all others):
Also found four additional threads about the very same problem in the meantime and linked it in the initial description as well. There are now at least 11 threads (including this) and at least one additional external Reddit thread (with multiple other users reporting the same problem) without any solution so far 😕
Still thinking that only HP can solve this problem by re-publishing a fixed / working firmware for this printer model. Maybe a mod / support team member can escalate this accordingly?
