8740 printer has two trays... 8710 one tray.
I think you must not depend on me for this decision.
First and foremost, I have no way of determining whether the printer will work with your InDesign software.
Equally important, what I know about the printers in this model series is limited; I have not purchased the 8740 (though I am considering doing so). I have not used this printer (or any of the 8700 printers).
Most important: I am a voice in the ether; I do not represent HP Inc.
Were I you, I would look at the printer at the HP.com online store. Call the staff at the store (number at the top of the web page): Ask your questions... you need not purchase the printer to get information. Smiling.
You can ask HP a most important question: If you buy the printer from HP and if that printer does not perform in the manner you require (for example, with your software), can you return the printer for money back? If yes, what is return policy / time frame. Get it in writing and read it.
NOTE: Ensure you completely understand the return policy of any company with whom you plan to do business.
Finally, spend what you can afford - do not let someone talk you into blowing your entire business budget on a too-fancy printer, on cushy chair, or a glass-etched sign to hang on the door. Smiling.
Good luck.

I cannot see any reason that Duplex should be missing -- the printer supports the feature with the Full Feature Software installed.
Open your printer's homepage > go to Drivers > download and install the Full Feature Software.
OR use this Link to Driver:

When the installation is complete, Restart the computer and log in.

Rats.
Silly printer.
I cannot say whether HP can help -- they certainly have experience with printers in general, and some techs are probably familar with this model in particular.
In general, assuming the Size of Paper and the Media (kind of paper) are compatible with the setting, Duplex should exist as a setting and should work to print on both sides of the paper.
The setting is in the Software, at least in the installation file.
Before you give up or call for help, Try / Consider:
See what the Doctor says
Download, install, and run the Print and Scan Doctor
HP Printers - Using HP Diagnostic Tools for HP Printers in Windows
NOTE: This may -- or may not -- produce any useful results; the printer may not know there is anything wrong.
Pretend the printer is "slow"
Read the following document:
HP Printers - Slow Printing (Windows)
- Perform Step 1 (Reset the printer)
- Consider Step 5 (Update the firmware) **
** Regarding the firmware update:
Please READ all the Installation Instructions before you consider updating the Firmware:

Commentary
Considering the printer is worth about what it might cost to fix it -- in your place, and only after due consideration, I might replace the printer with a nice model that handles the features you enjoy using the most. You don't get that for $70, of course, printers are one of those things (feature wise) that you get what you pay for.
HP or another forum Expert might well have something to add that will help.
I freely admit It is likely I am missing something.
