@kaiami

You are welcome.  I am sorry nothing is helping.  :Crying:

Regarding ugly error code:

HP Inkjet Printers - '0xc19a0005' Error or Similar Error Displays

The "Reset" option:

  • Notice the instructions to remove the ink cartridges (and then replace them after the reset)
  • Note that the printer should be plugged into a wall socket (as opposed to using a Surge Protector or power strip).

And.. notice the very sad Step 2: "Service the printer"

If the firmware on the Download page in my previous post does not install, it might be that the firmware is already at the latest version.

Rats.

Thank you! I have researched that error code, and tried everything. My printer cartridges are stuck and I cannot manually move the carriage. The only thing left is to have the printer serviced. I guess I will be looking to purchase a new printer! If you can recommend a good duplexing printer that would be great. I really do appreciate all of your advice!

Also, as far as the firmware (which isn't even an option at this point), it just didn't show my printer on the list to allow me to install it. Perhaps it was up to date. I'm just extremely disappointed with HP at this point. Thank you again!

Commentary

HP actually makes very good printers -- I am admittedly biased.   :generic:

Pinters from every top-line manufacturer can last for years or die much too soon.  When a printer, even an inexpensive model, dies "before its time", there is little consolation.

I have a very nice Officejet Pro 8630 that has served me very well; the printer is packed with features (program support, utilities, paper sizes, Media types (kind of paper)).  The printer performs without problems, provides great document and photo printing quality, and prints fast.  Sadly, the model has been discontinued.

IMHO:  Printers (from any maker) are one of those items where you get what you pay for:  Less expensive models lack extra features (for example, support for lots of paper sizes and Media types), may only connect with a USB cable (Ethernet is best in most cases), are made with less expensive parts (needful to keep down the price), and tend to use ink that costs as much as the ink for a more expensive model.

When you decide to replace your printer, READ all the specifications for the printer, read the User Guide, read the "datasheet" (features), find out what kind of ink the printer requires (can you get the ink easily in your location), and be sure the printer can be used with your mobile devices (feature and software).

If you choose to purchase a more expensive model printer:

When you buy a printer from HP.com/store, the printer comes with a standard year warranty.  IF you choose to do so, in many cases, you can extend the warranty (and improve what is covered).  Calculate the cost and decide whether the extra Care Pack warranty (terms and length of contract) is worth purchasing the extra coverage.  Companies other than HP may also make available "extended" warranty service for their printers.

More Rats.

If I think of anything else, I will post back...

Thank you so much! I've been doing some research and I'm thinking of buying the HP OfficeJet Pro 8710. Any opinion on this? Thanks again, you have been a HUGE help!

I just read your post again. I have trouble understanding a lot of the information listed on the printer specifications. From what I've read it does everything I need, and I can get HP Instant Ink with it. I'm looking to buy on Amazon.com, and they offer an additional 4 year warranty for around $15. It's not through HP, but through Asurion, which I have used (I believe for my mobile devices) and have always had good service with them. I do appreciate you so much! If you wouldn't mind taking a look at the model I mentioned above and giving your opinion, I'd really appreciate that! If not I totally understand! You have given me so much of your time already! Thank you so very much!

@kaiami,

You are welcome.  We do this work because we enjoy it.  "Paying it forward."

The HP Officejet Pro 8700 series is a good choice -- if you read the data carefully you will find that the 8710 does lack a few of the features provided in the 8720 / 8740 models (extra tray notwithstanding).

Be sure the 8710 provides automatic Duplex, for example.  Check for each of the other features that are important to you.  Compare the three models.  Read what others say and check product reviews.

Know this about this model series:

Paper exits the printer face-down.  The feature is intended to provide extra privacy for documents printed in an office environment.  I would use HP Advanced Photo Paper for photo printing -- the paper's  instant dry feature helps ensure newly printed photos are dry when they exit the printer.

Warranty is a personal choice.  I, too, tend to do repeat business with those companies that I have reason to trust.  Tomorrow I can send you a link to the Care Pack Center so you can compare coverage.

Thank you so much! You're awesome! I have checked and the 8710 says it has auto-duplexing. I asked on Amazon and many people have responded saying it works well. I'm trying to be sure it can work without having to set it within the software you're trying to print from, because in my case, with InDesign, it doesn't offer that option. I would need to set it in printer properties to be sure it does it automatically. I will definitely check out the other models. I do appreciate your help and will look for that link from you tomorrow! Have a wonderful night! 🙂

I don't understand what you mean by extra tray notwithstanding? I'm sorry, I'm not very tech savvy, obviously. 🙂 I am just trying to start a small business from home and need to be able to print double sided booklets from InDesign! Thank you again! You have made this very stressful situation much easier to deal with! 🙂

The 8720 & 8740 look much nicer, but are a bit out of my budget right now. I really just need something that will do what I need it to for a year or so, then I should be able to upgrade. I'm not asking you to do the hard work for me, but because of my lack of understanding, and the fact that the only feature that is required for me as of now is the auto-duplex printing.. would you mind checking if the 8710 should be sufficient for me? I've tried comparing, but as I said, due to my lack of knowledge and understanding, I really cannot tell if I NEED to spend the extra money right now, when I cannot really afford to. Thank you! Even if you do nothing else, you have helped me more than you know! 🙂
