My HP office jet Pro 8600 Plus has been working like magic since the past 12 years only needing cartridge replacement every other year.

This time when I changed the cartridge I got an error message saying 951 Cyan cartridge is damaged even though on first installation it gave me the message that genuine HP cartridge installed.

I bought another 951 Cyan cartridge from another shop and tried installing it and again same error message.

I understand the printer is old but it has never given us any issue and though HP no longer supports this printer I want to try buying one other 951 Cyan cartridge which does not show produced in Malaysia warranty ending Nov 26 as I am not sure if its a particular defective batch.

The new printer may cost me less than all the cartridges I am trying to buy just to check as I don't want to dispose off this printer unless am sure its not going to work.

The other cartridges don't give any error message, scanner works fine, I have tried all the troubleshooting steps advised on the site but did not help.

Should I invest in one more cartridge ? Also which HP printers that HP is still supporting use this cartridge so that I can use still use them, warranty on both the cartridges ends in 2026 so where can I return these cartridges if they just don't work

Probably needs a good cleaning

General advice on printhead cleaning is here.
This link shows cleaning the 8600 printhead and removal is shown here.

This is another type of printhead cleaning, different from the above.

Cleaning and removing ink is shown below by our "Scullery" team.

An HP original video on how to clean the printheads by our experts. Yes, this can get messy, but it works. If your ink levels are good but you are printing blank pages then this is likely the solution.

Official HP advice on cleaning.

Some printers have a printhead cleaning procedure.

To clean the printhead on an HP printer, access the printer settings through the HP Smart app, navigate to "Print Quality Tools," and select "Clean Printhead"; this will initiate a cleaning cycle where the printer will automatically run a cleaning process to clear any clogs in the printhead

Inkjet and printhead cleaning kits are available

Consumer inkjet printer printheads typically last for several years, with some lasting up to 10 years or even longer. However, the lifespan can vary greatly depending on usage, maintenance, and environmental factors.

does not help, I have already tried all the troubleshooting tips multiple times before posting my issue here. I did it again as well but still does not work.

the problem is in one cyan cartridge out of the four, other three don't show any error .  my printer has a clean printhead function but without resolving cartridge error nothing can be done on this printer, it won't even let me print anything in black and white

We finally bought a new printer as the cost of printer was same as cartridges and I did not want to buy a third cartridge.

our dealer refused to take back the cartridge though the warranty says november 26, I don’t know where to return to get the refund of two such cartridges, we have a new printer but these cartridges are not compatible with new one.

a total waste and not so good for the environment
