Hello all!
Would appreciate your help. I own a HP Deskjet 2800e All-in-One Printer. The problem began upon changing the ink cartridges. No problem prior to that! The printer is only a few months old, so it was the first time I have changed them in this machine.
A sign appears: error o. The cartridges are new and are HP's 305.
I've checked them several times for dirt, etc-all is fine. And they are seated fine.
This has put me off wi-fi printers! I have checked lots of online advice-much of it the same-check this, check that, etc but to no avail. I would appreciate any advice to rectify this problem., which frankly is driving me nuts.
Thanks in advance.

Hi @oldtimer78,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the error on your printer!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Check Cartridge Compatibility:
- Ensure that you are using the correct HP ink cartridges for your printer model. For the HP DeskJet 2800e, it should be HP 305 ink cartridges.
Reinstall the Ink Cartridges:
- Turn on the printer.
- Open the ink cartridge access door.
- Remove the ink cartridges from the printer.
- Inspect the cartridges and the contacts inside the printer for any debris or damage.
- Reinsert the cartridges carefully, ensuring they are properly seated.
Clean the Ink Cartridge Contacts:
- Turn off the printer.
- Remove the ink cartridges.
- Using a lint-free cloth or cotton swab lightly moistened with distilled water, gently clean the electrical contacts on the ink cartridges and inside the printer.
- Allow the contacts to dry completely before reinstalling the cartridges.
Reset the Printer:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 60 seconds.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
Check Printer Firmware:
- Ensure that the printer firmware is up to date:
- Visit the HP Support page for DeskJet 2800e.
- Enter your printer model and download any available firmware updates.
- Follow the instructions to install the update.
Run a Printer Diagnostic:
- Use the HP Smart app or HP Print and Scan Doctor to run a diagnostic test on your printer:
- Download and install the HP Smart app from the HP Smart app page.
- Follow the prompts to run diagnostics and troubleshoot any detected issues.
I hope this helps.
