My printer keeps going offline. I have tried unplugging router, printer, and laptop and re-booting. I have tried the HP doctor/scan. It supposedly installs updates. Print message still says offline and won't print wireless. My wireless icon on the printer shows ON and doesn't say offline. When I run an internal print test front the printer, the test shows my network status as "Ready" and and shows status as Connected. I've read through other posts with users stating same problem and the answer HP provides is ridiculously technical. Please help. Is my only option for printing to buy a print cable and hardwire my laptop to the printer? Even then, with that solution, another user said his computer wouldn't recognize the printer... so what's a woman to do? My OS is Windows 10, version 1803.

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂 I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.
You can set a Manual IP for your Printer :
1) Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to obtain the IP address.
2) Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
3) Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.
4) Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
5) Click Manual IP
6) If you see a Suggest a Manual IP Address button, click Manual IP address, and the Manual IP addresses are automatically filled out for you.
7) If your page does not have a button to suggest a manual IP address, type the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway using the numbers shown in the report you printed.

I located my IP address. I'm surprised that you would expect the average user to do this without providing more information. Seems kind of arrogant of HP. I'm a technical writer and one of the birighter lightbulbs in a room. And yet, I would need to know all your lingo in order to understand your response.
How do I type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
And how would I ever be able to figure out what EWS stands for without doing research???

@cyntheag
I apologize. You can open any web browser, and type the IP address and hit enter to open the Printer's page.

Hi @cyntheag, I am the Mr.Robot. It looks like you were interacting with @Betty0610, but she is out of the office today, so I'll take over from here.
I appreciate your efforts for writing back to us.
As you mentioned the printer still keeps going offline.

I wrote in OP that after running Scan Doctor, printer remained offline. I'm assuming you are suggesting to run it again.
As regards, setting printer as default, I followed your directions and saw that it was already set as default printer. Here is the screen shot (note Printer Status as Offline, Default:

Hi, I posted a long response and it's not appearing... After trying a number of different options after I ran the Scan Doctor again and received an "Unsuccessful Network Connection" message, I think I may have ultimately clicked on the Troubleshooter icon that appeared and I am happy to say I can now print. I can't say that I'm really clear on what solved the problem. Here's the screen I ended up seeing... I had submitted a "Send Error Report" and then clicked on the Troubleshooter. Wish I could be more specific about what worked - am just happy to be able to print now!!

@cyntheag, Thanks for your prompt response again.
I appreciate your efforts in trying out the steps.
Splendid analysis and remarkable patience shown. It is immensely appreciated.
As you mentioned the issue still persists after trying out the steps.
Try updating the printer firmware and check if it helps.
Update the printer firmware using this link. Click Here
If the issue still persists after updating the firmware, try performing a semi-full reset on the printer and connect printer back to the network.
As the steps to perform a semi-full reset is confidential and dedicated to your printer. I will share you the steps through a private message.
Please watch your inbox for more information.
Hope this helps!
