Unfortunately, that doesn't work.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but just in case: I kept having problems with the hp officejet 3830 from scanning to printing in color... I realized that I needed the updated software, "HP SMART" software, which I downloaded and installed in Nov. 2019 (I'm sorry, I took too long too share this info)... now I can print, scan, whatever with no problems. With Windows 10 (which was on the new pc, I recently purchased) You can add it from the "Microsoft Store". Here's that link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/hp-smart/9wzdncrfhwlh?rtc=1&activetab=pivot:overviewtab.

Too late, already junked this awful printer.  I spent days & days to get this to work, downloading, deleting, changing drivers.  It's horrible.  Get a Canon instead (plus, they're better on ink).

I had the same issue , and after one day of installing and uninstalling the files from HP , I succeed with very easy step - Just remove everything form this printer except "HP Smart" program downloaded from Microsoft Store ! Then remove the printer from "HP Smart" as well ! Last step is just ADD PRINTER from "HP Smart" and the job is done ! Don't install the other files as "OJ3830_Full_WebPack_1119 " , you will have that problem again ! PRINTER.jpg

Thanks, but I tried that repeatedly, purged everything HP from my computer, but then it couldn't uninstall it.  Couldn't re-install because part of the previous install was still there.  I just tossed this awful printer & went back to Canon--much better print quality and actually WORKS.

OMG. I have been looking all over for a solution. I have had this printer for about a year and a half now and it will print from any other device in color but it wasn't printing from my desk top in color. There have been times when it would mysteriously print in color. Don't ask me how. But your solution worked right away!!! thanks for sharing because the "HP employees" just keep giving everyone the same answer as if they are not understanding that most of us are saying that we don't even have the option. Thank you, thank you, thank you. So for anyone looking for a solution still. THIS WORKS!!!!

That actually works !! I was trying to fix this for many hours now. thank you

I'm running into the same issue. Just purchased a new HP Laptop and now I've noticed my printer/both HP home computers no longer give me an option to print in color. Seems fishy. Especially, when met with a service fee or "must enroll in a program" to resolve the issue. I was going to keep up with HP for our growing family, but this is very inconvenient and it feels deliberate.

SOLUTION!!

Like you guys i did everything, EVERYTHING. I Have a solution for you to print in color from the same printer BUT you have to do it from your phone. Send the document to your phone via email or Bluetooth. Download the HP Smart app to your phone and you can print it from your phone. It worked for me.

For some reason the problem is our laptop switches the option from color to monochrome (if you tried doing it from HP Smart from the laptop) It lets you select Color but as soon as you exit the screen and come back it selects it to monochrome again. The only available solution right now is sending the print command from your phone to bypass it. Goodluck.
