I've been told the problem stems from Microsoft invalid certificates pertaining to some control panel, and driver certificates errors, or some such thing.
I was directed to my event viewer. There is indeed a lot of errors and warnings there..A lot! Could this possibly be?

My understanding is that if it was a certificate problem, then you'd not go as far as to install the printer software.
My suggestion would be to add the below mentioned Folders in Exclusion list of Comodo.
Click HERE to access the steps to do so in comodo.
Please add the below folders under EXCLUSIONS in comodo.
- C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\officejet pro 8620 series
- C:\Program Files\HP\officejet pro 8620 series
Restart the PC.
Power Off the Printer, wait for 30 seconds and then power it on.
Click on the Triangle icon located on task bar, bottom right corner of the screen, right click on the scanner icon , then click on Scan to Computer, click on ENABLE button. Now try scanning from printer. It should work,.

jabzi,
Thanks for that. On another note. My computer keeps trying to install a update called "Hewlett-Packard- Other hardware,Printer-Null Print-HP Officejet Pro 8620" But it contuinally fails. Any idea what this is?

Hello,
I have started to feel confident on COMODO antivirus program having a registry cleaner functionality. I guess its trying to delete the printer registry entries.
You may try uninstalling the COMODO, restart PC, and then try scanning.
After about 20 minutes try installing COMODO.

jabzi,
If the COMODO was deleting the printer reg. entires would the printer go offline then automatically re-connect on it's own?
What do you make of the download attempts? What do you think of all the warnings and errors in the event logs?

1) check for windows update, you may install the updates marked as "Important".
2) Also download the hp update you mentioned earlier.
3) Restart PC.
4) now enable the scan to computer feature and try scanning.
5) if issue still exists, uninstall the printer software from Program and Features.
6) Restart pc.
7) install the printer software.

Hopefully there should be some reference to this issue. However if the update is not listed in "critical" then you may ignore it. Uninstall the printer software, restart pc and then reinstall the printer software.

jabzi,
Thanks for the link. But as the update mentioned is not a Windows (Microsoft), rather a HP. It's not listed at that Microsoft site. I have no problems updating Windows updates. I think I'm past uninstalling, and re-installing the Printer software at this point. That has already been done. It seems we have gone down the road to achieve scanning. Scanning is not my issue, My printer losses wireless connection randomly. It only will not scan to computer, or print, when this wireless connection is lost. It works fine, when signal is present. Which BTW, is most of the time.
It only drops signal, once in awhile. But it only takes once, to try and print, or scan something to the computer, only to find I'm unable to, To be frustrating!
