I recently changed the black ink cartridge on the 309a. When I replaced the cartridge, an error message came up "Incompatible printhead The printhead installed is not intended for use in this printer or is damaged"
I have never had a problem before. I have gone through the process of cleaning the print head etc, reinstalled, but it still has the same message.
I have never had a problem before when changing an ink cartridge.
Any ideas to fix this problem or do I just throw it away

Hi @Phil309a
Just FYI you should be able to buy a printhead online at the HP Part Store..

HI @Phil309a,
Thanks for reaching out to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you're getting "Incompatible printhead The printhead installed is not intended for use in this printer or is damaged" error on your HP Photosmart Premium C309a Printer. I would be happy to look into this with you today.
Generally, this error message indicates that there is a problem with the ink cartridge or the printhead.
I would follow the steps within this guide, it addresses the cartridges and printhead:
Note: HP recommends that you use genuine HP cartridges. HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP cartridges or refilled HP cartridges. If you do not use genuine HP cartridges, the following solutions might not resolve the issue.
If you have a defective ink cartridge or printhead, it might be under warranty. To check the warranty on your ink supplies, go to hp.com/go/learnaboutsupplies, select your country/region, then review the limited warranty information for your supplies.
If you completed all the preceding steps and your product still has an issue, service the product.
Contacting HP for service in all countries/regions except Asia Pacific.
First, go to Check your product warranty to check your printer warranty status, and then go to Contact HP Support to find an authorized service dealer or to schedule a repair.
Check Warranty Status: http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/wc/public/home
Repair fees might apply for out-of-warranty printers.
What you can do, is use the following link to create yourself a case number, then call and it may help speed up the call process:
Step 1. Open link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp
Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect
Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"
Step 4. Scroll down and click on HP contact options - click on Get phone number
Case number and phone number appear

Thanks Drakster for your comments. I have only used HP products. The printer was working ok, then I changed the black ink cartridge. It was then that the printhead message came up. I have gone through all the procedures as recommended by HP, but still get the same message. Personally, I think the printhead is blocked, but better still, have the machine serviced.
Question: Where does one go to get a C309a serviced in Melbourne. Phil

Hi @Phil309a,
Thanks for taking the time to update me.
I don't believe HP repairs consumer HP products. If the printer is out of warranty, HP may offer you a discount towards a trade-in on a replacement unit.
Please contact HP at your earliest convenience.
I hope you have a great day!
