HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 All-in-One Printer

My printer worked a few hours ago, then when I tried print later I received this message on the printer screen "Printer Failure. There is a problem with the printer or print system. Turn the printer Off, then On. If you continue to get this message, contact HP.  0x6100004a".

I turned off, waited, turned back on.  Same issue.  I unplugged, waited, turned back on. Same issue. I restarted my computer.  Same issue. Connectivity appears normal on both printer and laptop. Laptop still has correct printer in SetUp. I've tripled checked for paper jams. Any ideas? Printer is 2 years old.

UPDATE: Ive confirmed no new updates pending. Tried Clean Printhead and got the same error message noted above (Printer Failure, etc".)  Tried to do an alignment, wouldn't print alignment page.

If you're seeing a "Printer Failure" message on the screen of your printer, it indicates that there is a problem with the printer hardware or components. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue:

Power Cycle: Turn off the printer, unplug the power cord from the power outlet, and wait for about 1-2 minutes. Then, plug it back in and turn on the printer. This simple reset can sometimes clear temporary errors.

Check for Obstructions: Ensure that there are no paper jams, foreign objects, or obstructions in the printer's paper path or cartridges. Carefully inspect the printer, including the input and output trays, and remove any debris or stuck paper.

Update Firmware/Software: Check if there are any available firmware or software updates for your printer model. Visit the manufacturer's website and download the latest updates if applicable. Follow the instructions provided to install them on your printer.

John
