For the last two or three months, neither of our two laptops will print until we cycle the power off/on. Only then, will printing work. My wife and I connect wireless to the printer. I have verified that the software and firmware are up to date. We have cycled the print spooler service, etc, and we just can't print until we cycle the power. Once we do that we are able to print most of the day. I've even considered purchasing another printer but surely there is an answer. Thank you for any help.

Thanks for visiting the HP community. A very good day to you! I read the post regarding issues with having to restart the printer each time to establish a communication. I will be delighted to assist you here.
You’ve done an excellent job of diagnosing the issue from your end. Superb effort and spectacular research were done as well. Kudos to you on that score. 🙂 I take it as a privilege to share this platform with you.
For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:
- Did this happen after a power outage or surge?
- Do you get any error messages?
For now, try these steps:
- Perform a hard reset on the printer from this link: http://hp.care/2jxGDlW and perform only step 1 for a hard reset.
- Then check if the issue gets corrected. If it continues, run HP print and scan doctor from this link: http://hp.care/2b4bUIM and check if the issue gets fixed without restarting the printer.
- Now check for issue resolution.
- If the issue persists, then assign a static IP address to the printer by following steps from http://hp.care/2tV7I4y this video.
This should fix the issue,
- If the issue persists then, perform steps 1, 5, 6 and 7 from this link: http://hp.care/2ykQkH5 (HP Printers - Printer Not Found During Network Driver Setup (Windows)
- Now check for issue resolution. If it still continues, then please perform all the relevant steps from this link:
- Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. This should do the trick for you.

Thank you for the info David. I will initiate the hard reset today. Regarding your questions... No error messages and we don't believe any power outages caused this. I will let you know how things go after doing the hard reset today and testing in the morning.

I reviewed the post. You've done brilliantly here by displayed commendable technical competence, immense patience coupled with tremendous resilience to try and figure things out. Kudos to you for that. 🙂 It is super to have you back and your patience and time are also greatly appreciated.
Please try the hard reset along with all the other prescribed steps and links till the issue gets resolved. It should work as long as there is no hardware issue with the product. Please, break some good news that is music to your ears and mine. I will keep my fingers crossed.
You've been a valued HP customer and it has been a fabulous experience to share this platform with you and terrific to have worked with you. I hope things work great for you. Now trust me I've done all I can to assist you here by keeping your best interest in mind.
