I have the same problem with my iMac and HP 7520. I enter the phototray option 4x6 or 7x5 but it ignores this and prints from the regular tray wasting paper and ink. How can we correct this fault? Jeffkershaw

The solution I found was to adjust the alignment of the large tray that holds the smaller one. It sort of required a gentle tap or push to put the photo tray into the correct position. It was sort of a matter of feel. Just make sure that it is properly seated.

Here is what I have found to work, and it has been repeatable for me on my MAC Mini OS 10.11.6 (El Capitan). I can print this way from Photoshop and/or Image Viewer, and am consistantly getting it to go to the Photo Tray. This has been frustrating for me ever since I bought this printer, and I got it to work sometimes and not others as I didnt know what did it.

When you select your preferences, you need to have several things picked correctly, or it wont work.

1)  Make sure Paper Size is selecting either the 4x6 of 5x7 paper option, and you have the correct paper loaded

2) Select MEDIA QUALITY from the next drop down box and make sure FEED FROM IS PHOTO TRAY.

3) MEDIA TYPE: Select PHOTO GLOSSY PAPER. This is the thing that was screwing it all up for me. If you select Everyday Photo Paper, it will default to the main tray every time. Once I selected PHOTO GLOSSY PAPER, it printed from the photo tray every time.

4) Make sure your selecting BEST for output quality and you should be good to go.

Same problem...using Mac OS version 10.13.4. Tried many of the suggestions on this thread with no luck.  Printed from photo tray for years, but now will only print from 8.5 X 11 paper tray

After several hours and reviewing the Community selections, I finally was able to print a photo in Photos on 5x7 paper in my photo tray using OS X Mojave:

1.  Do what you need to do in Photos: select the photo, the size paper, and print to the paper tray

2.  When the printer dialog opens in Mojave, make sure you've selected Photo Paper in presets

3.  There's a dialog button called "Layout", hit the drop down and select Printer Features

4.  This is the mother lode: make sure you select "Best" or "Max" for Quality, and Photo Tray for Source

That last item is the source of all the problems when trying to print from the paper tray.

Thanks, George_c......Your instructions worked perfectly.  It seems as though you have to go through this sequence for every photo you print. It is time consuming and I'm not sure if you can default to these settings. Possibly an update changed this feature. In the past I have never had to fill in each dialogue box for each print.

Thanks again!
