I have tray 2 loaded with 11x17 paper and the using the touch screen have told the printer that 11x17 is loaded in tray 2.

Tray 2 does not appear the HP set preferences dialog box in the Paper Options ' Paper source.  When I attempt to print 11x17 using Printer Auto Select under Paper source I ger an error message on the touch screen that the wrong paper size is loaded in Tray 1.

I can copy 11x17 to paper from tray 2 by selecting tray 2 from the menu on the touch screen

Running scan doctor or rebooting  did not resolve the issue

Thanks for you help

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Forums.

The following relevant resource will show you how to set tray 2 as the default and with the right paper sizes:

HP OJP 8740 (Installing and using the 2nd Tray)

HP Officejet Pro 8730/8740 : Setup and use a "Copy" Default Tray

Configure Print Settings on Tray usage on HP Officejet Pro 7740

Let us know if that helps!

Who actually reads these posts from HP?

the reply I received today was a joke!!

1. My Officejetpro 7740 paper tray 1 works very well with A4 paper.

2. When putting A3 paper into tray 2, I have extended the drawer to accept the paper!

3. The tray then does not push right back in and in fact protrudes approx 3inches. As the reason I bought the printer was that it dealt with A3 AND A4 paper.

none of the tutorials cover using A3 for tray 2 and whether or not the protruding drawer is normal.

Could somebody from HP actually read the above and come back with an answer instead of pointing to such poor tutorials AND such poor videos on various sites?

This solution does not help. On the computer, it does not allow you to highlight Tray 2 in the settings.

Do you folks acutally read and check what is posted. The response does not ever addreess the correct printer. The question asked about HP Office Jet 7740 NOT 8740.  Please respond to the actual questions if you cvan if not please do not provide responses like this. It only demonstrates the level of intelgence that HP Support team has.

Hi @norcal1976  @User0701 @AD1027

Thanks for using the HP Forums.

Please watch the following video on how to configure the print settings for use on Tray 2 and Duplex printing:

Configure Print Settings on HP Officejet Pro 7740

If you need to download and install the FULL feature software, watch this.

Hope that helps!

PS :  If you use Tabloid and A3 media in either Tray 1 or Tray 2, the tray will protrude out, that is normal.

HP Officejet Pro 7740 Unboxing and Setting Up

Time @12:48 shows you how to load Tabloid media into the tray, with the tray protruding out after that.
