Hello,
I recently purchased HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 to replace my HP Photosmart 7520. I am starting to get acquainted with HP 6978 and have come across a perplexing problem that did not occur with HP 7520. When I print pasted images in MS Word, those images come out severely cropped. I have read comments about this problem online and there seems to be no sure-fire solution to fixing this problem. HP 6978's user guide manual does not say anything about this problem... maybe I am looking in the wrong place.
My OS is Windows 7 Pro 64-bit and I use a screen resolution of 1920x1080 (recommended in Windows 7 Pro), but I have it set at 125% to make it easier for me to read the screen. I read that this 125% is affecting how HP 6978 prints pasted images. Is that true? I did not have this problem with HP 7520. The screen must be at 125% for my eyes. In a few years, I will need to use 150%. I cannot be dealing with a printer that does not print what I see on the screen. It defeats the purpose of having a printer.
As for borderless printing, I have that feature turned off. Am not sure if I have to have it on or off if I want to print uncropped pasted images?
How can I fix this problem with a one-time change (instead of changing it every single time I want to print pasted images)?
Help!
Thank you.

Disregard. I've solved my own problem by reading other posters' problems with this particular quirk with the newer HP printers.
Save any cut/snip image as JPEG or any other preferred format (ex. TIF, BMP, etc.). Then insert into MS Word through its "Insert" tab and "Picture" in the "Illustrations" section of MS Word 2010.
I solved this problem when I realized that HP didn't have any problems printing "inserted" pictures that were already saved as its own file (ex. JPEG, TIF, BMP, etc.). For instance, if I wanted to insert a .JPEG picture of my family into MS Word, it printed out fine. If I wanted to paste a cut/snipped image from the Internet, the cropping problem occurred. This problem occurs only when someone tries to "paste" images into MS Word from something outside of MS Word.
Do not uninstall/reinstall... it's a wild goose chase. Do not change your screen resolution. Do not change the screen magnification. Do not do anything to your computer or the printer. Simply save whatever image you cut or snip into its own file. That "Snipping Tool" that comes with Windows 7 Pro allows you to save any snipped images. If you want to save an image from the Internet, opt for "save image" or use the snipping tool.
Now, if I can stop the habit of "cutting" and "pasting" directly into MS Word. Hmm.
I'm going to give myself a kudos!

This is for the HP staff who reads through these posts to see any potential problems with their products/services.
Here is the proof that it is the newer HP printers that are responsible for the issues with "pasted images" (as opposed to "inserted images... pasted images are the result of a cut-and-paste job, moving one image from one platform to another. Inserted images are the results of inserted images from files, such as .JPEG, .BMP, etc.), not Windows or any other software/operating system platform. This is a problem solely the fault of HP.
For many years, I cut-and-pasted many images from the Internet and printed them out via my HP 7520 printer with no problems. That means I have countless documents (MS Word 2010 and MS Excel 2010 on Windows 7) with pasted images in my files that the new HP 6978 will not be able to print, unless I first convert them to PDF... if I remember to do that before I print whatever I want to print.
If I created a document with an inserted image (by using "Insert" tab and clicked on "Picture" in the "Illustrations" group within MS Word 2010), then there was no problem printing out that.
This problem only affects "pasted images". Which means that I now have to go back and redo all my documents again. I am a family historian and I used the "copy image" option on the right-click menu when hovering over an image (could be an image of a document, for example) on the Internet. It doesn't matter what browser it is; Firefox or IE. The fact that this includes the Internet should suggest to HP that it is not a Windows issue, but a HP printing issue. It also happens when the snipping tool is used.
That is the proof I am giving to HP. How could I print anything I wanted with pasted images with HP 7520 before it died and I had to buy HP 6978 and suddenly, I cannot print pasted images unless I first save them as a file then inserted them into documents.
Thank you.

In total agreement with Tutor. I am a genealogist also with thousands of documents that I copied and pasted images to using the Snipping Tool. Just installed a new HP printer - Laserjetpro mfp m281cdw a few days ago. The copy/paste of the Snipping Tool results in the printer printing a larger, distorted, cropped version of what is in the Word document.
It pastes just fine in the Word 2010 document (Windows 10). Looks perfect in the print preview window. However, when I print the document the image is distorted and cropped on the page. What has been typed on the page is not hindered.
The snipping tool has the option to copy and paste. I should be able to use the program as it was intended without interference from the printer or creating a workaround.
I would like a solution to this problem. I see many posts about this same issue with no solutions. Saving the image and inserting it to the Word doc is a workaround. In the meantime, cannot print documents previously created that had a copy/paste image as they are ruined with the distorted, cropped images.

Hello ,
I'm having the same problem with my new HP ENVY Photo 7155. See my research below:
After more research, I discovered that the problem happens only when I capture a screen image using keys <cntl><PrtScrn> and then paste the clipboard into a MS Word 2010 document. After pasted I also did the the resize process to make the screen image fit the whole 8.5” x 11” letter paper. I also selected the format picture options Wrap then select square fit to move the picture closer to the paper edges. Now when I select File, then Print options in WORD, I get a beautiful Page Preview where all looks like I as described above. So here is where the problem is when I select Print again in the Preview view to get the final print off the printer, the printed page is smaller by at least 20% on the right side. I even tried to resize the word page to make the screen much smaller to see if the image would print smaller but correct and the image did print smaller but still was missing the same portion of the picture as when the image was set to fit the whole print page. I don’t have the problem if I start with a .JPG picture. It will allow all the resizing and formatting and print as the preview shows.

I also checked the Advanced Tab feature for the HP printer. Didn't work.
I also checked MS Word, Options, Display, Printing Options, Print background colors and images. Didn't work.
Images that I cut-and-paste into MS Word still get cropped with the new-generation HP printers. This wasn't a problem with the older-generation HP printers, such as 7520. Not sure why HP screwed up this. I don't have any other problems with PDF, so if I want to print anything in MS that have cut-and-paste images, then I have to convert MS Word into PDF and it prints fine.
I find it hard to believe that the problem is Microsoft because I've had the same Microsoft programs with my old HP printer 7520 with no problems. I am using the same Microsoft programs with the new HP printer 6978.
I don't think I will be getting another HP printer because I have yet to see any solid solutions from HP. It's like they don't care. I started posting this problem here in August 2017. It's April 2018 and I still have the same problem and I haven't seen a solution from HP. All they do is send "links" on "print quality issues", such as missing ink, smeared ink, blah blah blah. I use genuine ink. I am doing everything by the book but the cut-and-paste images keep getting blown up like crazy and getting cropped in MS Word every time I print them out!!! They look great in the print preview, but I think there's a bug in the new generation HP printers that HP doesn't want to admit.
My advice to others in the same painful and aggravating situation I amin ...
We've got to stop cutting-and-pasting images when using HP printers. They won't allow us to do it anymore. We must start saving these images as actual/real images, such as JPEG, BMP, PNG, etc. HP for some weird reason doesn't "parse" the images the way we want... it's almost as if it's stuck on the "original" image. It treats these cut-and-paste images as a separate entity from the rest of the document. We've got to fool it by saving it as an image on our computer so it'll think it's from the same source as the document. Never had to do that before, but someone dropped the ball big time over there at HP HQ. Huge. Ball.
Another option is to create the document you want in MS Word, then save it as PDF and print it off that way.
Good luck!

I gave up using the snipping tool and our new HP printer. It used to work with both browsers MS-Explorer11 and MS-Edge with Win10 OS with the old printer (not an HP).
I found the ADD NOTES menu within the EDGE browser has a clip function. Click on the pen icon in upper right of the Edge browser to see the scissors icon. Have been able to use this successfully to clip and paste into WORD and the new HP printer handles it correctly. No more images being distorted.

Hi genekat,
Thanks for the post!! Your way sounds promising. I need to spend some time to learn, but we are going on a cruise, so I will have to do this then.
I appriciate your help.
I thought of another way to work around to that that would beto copy a screen image with keys <shift><PrtScn> then past the image into word and then touch the new word picture and do a Save As jpg file. Then the jpg can be printer or you can out it into word again and print it.

kudos to genekat - this works
Use snipping tool as before, but save doument as a PDF and THEN print
hey presto works a treat!
Saving image as a Jpeg worked poor, printed versions came out very blurry
will look into the edge thingy as well - thanks
