Thanks JRFX I agree it was the first time I tried to print photos on it and it was a very unpleasant experience. It has gone back to the shop as it’s only 3 months old.

My printer is 3 months old and having the exact same problem no matter what software u install or what paper you use or how much cleaning u do it’s an HP problem. Mine was an office jet pro 8730 now returned to the shop. I went through 3 days of hell with HP techs trying to get me to practically open up the entire printer and delete everything and reinstall everything and clean everything and change paper and on and on and on I was going mental. Moral of the story : DONT ADVERTISE ABILITY TO PHOTOPRINT WHEN IT CANNOT. People in South Africa are having this common problem too with HP office jet printers.
Now do I get an EPSON or a CANON?
