When trying to print from the Internet or PDFs, my pages are printing out in solid black ink, randomly. At times, they print fine, but more frequently, they print all black, thus wasting a ton of ink.
If I print a Google Doc, they print normally and correctly, consistently.
This is a brand new printer with new HP cartridges.

Good Day. Thank you for posting your query in the HP community. I will be delighted to assist you here.
Superb description of the issue before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂
For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:
- Are you trying to print PDFs from a Browser like Google Chrome or is it a PDF app that you are using like Adobe reader?
- If it is an app, did you try to uninstall and reinstall the pdf app and check again?
- If it the Chrome browser, did you reset the browser and check if it fixes the issue?
Furnish these details to assist you correctly.
For now, try these steps:
- Please perform a hard reset on the printer from this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-envy-photo-7100-all-in-one-printer-series/9073119/model/9073... and follow instructions from the section “Step 1: Reset the printer”
- Then update the printer firmware also by following instructions from this link: https://support.hp.com/bg-en/document/c02919168
- There is an associated YouTube video on how to do it. Use a USB cable to do it.
- Let me keep you posted that the issue is software related and not related to the printer as Google Docs print correctly. Great effort on your part diagnosing it correctly.
- So if it is the browser, then reset the browser and check if it prints correctly.
- Try another browser to print PDF files.
- If it is an app like Adobe Reader, uninstall and reinstall the latest version of the App and check by printing PDF documents.
- Try installing a different PDF Reader or App and print from it.
- These generic steps should resolve the issue. Perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. Good luck to you.
Let me know how it goes. To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles. Take care and have a blessed week ahead. 🙂
