I bought a new deskjet 4510 and have installed it through usb on my desktop running windows 8.1. It is not printing through ms office products like word, excel etc and neither through wordpad. I can print Notepad files and pdf files through adobe reader.
I tried HP print and scan doctor which did not find any problem with the printer and prints a test page.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, setting the printer up wirelessly but could not make it print.
I looked up help on this forum and also tried selective setup, disabling all services except microsoft services while startup but the problem remains.
Please help.

Hey @rshri7869.
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you're having issues printing to your HP Deskjet In Advantage 4510 series e-All-in-One Printer from your Windows 8.1 computer. You have included a lot of helpful information in your post so I thank you for that. After reviewing the troubleshooting you have already completed I have come to the conclusion that what you're experiencing is a driver conflict on your Windows 8.1 computer. To correct this please follow the steps below.
How To Add An Alternate Driver:
- Open your Start screen (either by selecting the windows start button in the bottom left hand corner or by selecting the 'Windows' button on the bottom left of your keyboard to the left of 'Ctrl'
- In the Start Screen type 'Devices and Printers'
- If the Devices and Printers option doesn't automatically populate, than click on Settings on the top right and then click on Devices and Printers.
- In the Devices and Printers folder right click on your Deskjet 4510 series and left click on Printer Properties
- Left click on the Advanced tab
- Left click on New Driver
- When the New Driver window opens just hit 'next' until you see a list of Manufacturers on the left and a list of Printers on the right.
- Select HP as the Manufacturer on the left
- Select Deskjet 9800 as the printer on the right. If Deskjet 9800 doesn't appear than select 'Windows Update' on the bottom left and once the update completes you will be able to select Deskjet 9800.
- After selecting Deskjet 9800 hit next to complete the New Driver Wizard
- Under the Printer Properties window select 'Apply' but don't hit OK
- Select the General tab
- Rename your printer back to HP Deskjet 4510
- Hit OK
- Lastly, right click on your Deskjet 4510 series one more time and left click on Printing Preferences
- Left click on the Paper/Quality tab
- Left click on the 'Normal' dropdown for Print Quality on the bottom right and change this to Fast Normal
- Hit Apply and OK
- Try to print!
Please let me know if the steps I've provided resolve your issue. Good luck! 🙂

If only the guys at HP helpline were as well informed 🙂 They spent almost an hour hands-on on my computer through teamviewer and finally asked me to use restore and rescue to initialize windows back to original status. Unfortunately by the time I read your post, I had done it and have spent last few days merrily updating and reinstalling all I have lost.
The printer did not work as 4510 even after all of this and had to be installed as another, just as you suggested. Thanks for the response though. It may help lot of others 🙂
