Berlin and Brobbin. I also have the identical set-up as both of you, iMac with macOs Catalina 10.15.7. I spent 2 hours with Apple Support yesterday to solve the annoying "HPDM.framework" will damage your computer pop-up which appeared for the first time on my iMac on Saturday morning after starting the computer. Apple support after not resolving the issue finally referred me to HP support. I tried HP support, but could never get a live person, only a "virtual" computer response which was useless. I tried to reinstall the HP Utility by first uninstalling the one on my computer, then the HP Printer website directed me to download and install the HP Easy Start app. which is a zip file and it contained the HP Smart app which I installed. Following the installation instructions, it recognized my Officejet Pro 8600 printer. I can now print fine with it, directly from MS Word, Excel, or my Mail. Also I can copy, using the printer screen panel. To scan, I had to open the installed HP Smart app and using the scan function it scanned perfectly, saving the document to a selected folder on the iMac. Have not yet tried faxing so far.
The pop-up (mentioned above) is still there, but as long as I don't press the "OK" on it, it won't keep popping up anymore. I just moved it to my lower left edge of the screen and hope I find out soon how to get rid of it permanently. Hope this info helps.

I managed to remove all my problems and get the printers & Scanner working again by deleting the
...Library / printers / hp / Frameworks folder
and install the drivers again from the solution that BryanCustomerPure posted
I am not sure how to link to that post, so I copied the link I used below from that post.
---------------------
If you still can't find the printer, install the 5.1 driver package from HP: https://support.apple.com/kb/dl1888?locale=en_US
----------------
The first link in BryanCustomerPure post did not work for me, that's why I tried this solution
I have Mac with macOs Catalina 10.15.7 and Officejet Pro 8600

Like everyone else, I too am facing the same problem. The only thing I could do was to uninstall the HP driver and utility from my macOS Catalina 10.15.7. I am using a HP OfficeJet Pro 7720 printer. When the printer works, its a dream, but when it fails like this... its a ***bleep*** I cannot print to it.
I can wait so long for a solution to the issue from HP, but not forever...
I am now contemplating on getting Canon Printer as a replacement, as I really need access to a printer... from the feedback, I do NOT see HP jumping in to assist nor to to update their customers.
Come on HP you are hitting rock bottom in your service and commitment to your customers around the world.

Tried different advice from various forums to no avail. Printer would just about work but still kept getting HPDM Framework error when trying to scan.
In the end -
1. Deleted Frameworks Folder in printer library
2. Dowloaded this:
HP Printer Drivers v5.1 for OS X
