Hi @ASMITH19461,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Here are some steps you can try to resolve the "Tray empty or open" error.
Check the Paper Tray:
- Make sure the paper tray is properly seated in the printer.
- Ensure the tray is not overfilled or underfilled. Adjust the paper guides to fit the paper size and check that the paper is aligned correctly.
Inspect the Paper Sensors:
- Look inside the tray and the printer for any paper sensors or small switches. Dust or debris on these sensors can sometimes cause false errors. Clean them gently with a soft, dry cloth.
Check for Paper Jams:
- Ensure there are no paper jams inside the printer, particularly around the area where the tray inserts. Clear any jammed paper you find.
Restart the Printer:
- Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait a minute, then plug it back in and turn it on.
Update Printer Firmware:
- Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer model on the HP website. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve issues related to printer errors.
Reset Printer Settings:
- If the error persists, you might need to reset the printer settings to default. This option is usually available through the printer’s control panel or settings menu.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
