1. Firewall: Windows 8, AV: Windows Defender.  I have tried disabling both with no difference.

2. Ping is OK, 2 ms

3. Directly addressing printer I get this:  "There is a problem with this website's security certificate."  If I "Continue to this website (not recommended).", I can get into the Embedded Web Server.

4.  Router is Cisco Valet.  Printer is on a fixed address 192.168.1.124

The only thing I can think at this point would be another full uninstall, but this time go into Program Files and Program Files(x86). Once you are in each file, delete the HP folder. Next, access Devices and Printer, and make sure the printer isn't still listed under Server Properties. Then, run a registry cleaner to clear out any chances of a piece getting left behind. Finally, restart the computer and try to reinstall the printer. Let me know what happens.

Got it.  I reinstalled driver from Win8 Desktop.  Everything works great.  Thanks for your help Shane.

I'm confused as to what effect reinstalling the software has on the printer's ability to save a PDF file to an SMB share.

I have an A909n.  It worked flawlessly when it was writing to an SMB share on my machine when it was Windows 7.  When I went to Windows 8.1, I get the 0k files.  Nothing changed on the printer.  If I change the network location to a Mac or another Windows 7 machine, it works fine.

I have reinstalled the software numerous times now, played with the firewall, and tried turned it off... all to no avail.  I can connect to the web interface of the printer and run a webscan, no problem.

Any more ideas?

Hi vraicovi,

I understand that you are having an issue scanning to your SMB share folder in Windows 8.1. I will do my best to help you with this. I suggest that you make sure all of the updates for the computer are done. Then follow the steps in this document for Creating a Wireless Home Network .

I hope this helped.

Thank you,

I also have this problem SOLVED by updating the Firmware:

My Printer: HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless (A909g)

My OS: Windows 10

How To:

  1. Go to HP's Software & Drivers download page for your HP Officejet Pro 8500 printer.

    In my case (A909g):
    http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Officejet-Pro-8500-All-in-One-Printer-series---A9...

  2. You won't find the Firmware-download under Windows 10 or 8, so first:

Change Operating System selection to Microsoft Windows 7 and click [Update] button.

  3. Under section Firmware download and run HP Officejet Pro Firmware (version DLM1FN1344AR).

Strange this download can't be downloaded when you select Windows 8 or 10, but in my case it did work and solved the problem.
