I changed out the black print cartridge. Since then it only prints faint black. The other colors are fine. I have run the clean heads, quality print report etc. And nothing has changed. I have read all I can find online and there is one idea posted that the 'troubleshoot' will take care of it in time... it has been over 6 hours... and no change.
The new cartridge vent has been checked open. The printer head looks clean etc.
Any other suggestions?

Hi! @treading_water, Welcome to HP forums.
I understand you have print quality issues with your printer.
Don't worry I'll try to help you out.
Does the issue persist when you make a copy from your printer?
Have you installed full feature printer software?
Have you tried printing from a different application?
Have you tried printing using a different ink cartridge?
As you mentioned when you print from your printer the printer is printing in faint black color.
Check the ink level on your printer and replace the low ink cartridge.
You might need to change your print settings every time you print.
NOTE:
These steps vary by software, program, and operating system.
In your software application, click Print.
Select your printer from the list of available printers.
Click the option that opens the Printer Properties dialog box. Depending on your software application, this option might be called Printer Properties, Options, Printer Setup, Printer, or Preferences.
To use more black ink, select the best from the setting.
Click OK, and then click Print to start the print job.
Also, if the copy works fine uninstall the printer software from root level and install the latest full feature software for your printer.
In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
Select your HP printer.
Select Uninstall.
In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
Click on Drivers tab.
Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click remove at the bottom.
Select OK.
Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
Close Devices and Printers.
Update the full feature printer software using this link.
Refer this article to know more information about color or if black ink not printing.
If the issue still persists after trying out the steps, it could be an ink cartridge issue or a hardware issue with your printer.

Does the issue persist when you make a copy from your printer? - Yes
Have you installed full feature printer software? - Yes, new computer in Dec so software is all new and updated. Re installed and ensured updated software when first had the faint print issue. I had no problems printing until i replaced an empty cartridge for a new one.
Have you tried printing from a different application? Yes different computer, phones etc. and still all print faint.
Have you tried printing using a different ink cartridge? - as this is the new ink cartridge i have not tried another new ink cartridge at this time.
As you mentioned when you print from your printer the printer is printing in faint black color. yes
Check the ink level on your printer and replace the low ink cartridge. The black is new and full. The other colors were about 1/3 full.
At this point i tried cleaning the printer head again. Then did the clean printer again and align etc. The printer wont align. (forum says it wont align until the black print issues is resolved) link
After cleaning the printer head the other colors were not working so I replaced the blue, magenta and the yellow as well. The colors are working.
You might need to change your print settings every time you print. - I tried printing 'best' quality and in grayscale to see if the black would show and it did not - the black/white print was only in blue? I also tried best and max dpi in color- making no difference.
Copy does not print any differently ie. the print is faint so i did not uninstall and reinstall the software at this time.
Also, if the copy works fine uninstall the printer software from root level and install the latest full feature software for your printer.
Update the full feature printer software using this link. - The software is updated
Refer this article to know more information about color or if black ink not printing. The photosmart c410 is not listed and now the inks are all new. The problem persists.
If the issue still persists after trying out the steps, it could be an ink cartridge issue or a hardware issue with your printer. - The black ink cartridge is new.
I have cleaned printer now numerous times. Black does not show up on the printed page? all colours show up .
AND ALL THIS BECAUSE I CHANGED OUT AN EMPTY BLACK CARTRIDGE FOR A NEW ONE?
Please, any other ideas?
REALLY NEED TO GET THIS WORKING.

@treading_water, Thanks for your quick response and time.
I appriciate your efforts for writing back to us.
Thanks for such a detailed answer.
As you mentioned the issue persists when you make a copy from your printer.
It certainly looks to be ink cartridge or a hardware issue with the printhead issue with your printer.
