Hi JonCowan,
There is no newer software for this printer. You indicated that the printer worked fine on a different computer which indicates the printer is working correctly. At this point we need to isolate what on your system is causing the installation to fail. I would suggest uninstalling the AVG Free program, and then run the steps below. It is possible that AVG is blocking parts of the installation from being installed. If you still have issues then the only thing I can suggest is backing up your data, and run a full system recovery on this computer. Let me know what you find out?
Follow the instructions below to uninstall and reinstall the printer.
- Download the following file from the link below.
https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers/printers=
2. Double click on the downloaded file to extract it.
3. Once the Install splash screen appears click Exit
4. Type %temp% in the run field or Search programs and files, and then press OK or Enter
5. Look for, and open the folder starting with 7z (Example: 7zS2356)
6. Navigate to the following location C:\DOCUME~1\pcwizard\LOCALS~1\Temp\7zS2FD8\util\ccc
7. Run L4Uninstall.exe or .bat under the CCC folder
8. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer
9. Run Disk cleanup from Accessories\ System Tools
10. Double click on the downloaded file to reinstall the printer

Hi Bluefathoms,
Can you continue with the steps in the document, and then after you restart your computer try step 14 again.

Hi Bluefathoms,
OK, cancel the installation, and then try uninstalling the printer from the Add/Remove programs. After you have uninstalled from Add/Remove restart the computer. When computer is restarted try the steps in the document again to completely remove any printer drivers or software remaining on your computer. If you are still unable to get this uninstalled your operating system may be contributing to the failure to uninstall or reinstall the printer. You may want to backup your data files, and then run a full system recovery on your computer. Let me know what you find out?
