Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).
Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

Thank you for further detailed instructions. It didn't go well.

It wasn't clear which printer to select - plain 6200 series, 6200 series-HPscan or HP twain admin (see pic)

I tried them all in turn.

On the printer panel there is no option to "Scan to email" it's a list headed by "Select a Computer" under which is

DESKTOP-267xyz

Scan to DESKTOP-M9UEnnn

Scan to DESKTOP-267xyz

I regret to report that your instructions bear no relation to the reality of what these two supposedly sophisticated printer/scanners display and what actions they execute.

It's still impossible to make a simple Scan to Email from the panel as we used to.

And if we do it through the laborious, time-consuming procedure via the software on the desktop it takes us back to square one - can't trigger the default email app (Thunderbird) with scanned doc/pic already attached, ready to send once relevant fields are completed. Which takes me back to the same questions:

1. why does the HP software no longer operate the simple Scan to Email function from the panel?

2. why, if I resort to instructions via the desktop software, does it scan, then fail to find the client email app (Thunderbird)?10-scanTo-choices.jpg9_ScanDone_noAppFound.jpg8-plain6200-NoEmailWiz.jpg5WhichHPprinter.jpg

It's come to the point where I have spent so much time trying to resolve this - many hours in total - that I can't do any more. I've done my damndest.

What's more, my wife just tried to print something to the ENVY 6230 and it started spewing out pages of code, just as on this thread:

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printing-Errors-or-Lights-Stuck-Print-Jobs/Printer-printing-endless-co...

I entered a simple "test" in Notepad, printed to the 6230, and the same garbage issued forth. There is plainly something wrong with the printer and/or associated software. We are returning it to HP as not fit for purpose, and, given the reported problems with scanning to Thunderbird that I have seen, with a supposed fix, somewhere on these forums, of tweaking the Windows registry to make the software think that it is using MS Outlook, I am seriously considering abandoning HP for a printer scanner that is guaranteed to be able to Scan To .... Email..... pdf/jpg choice .... and launch Thunderbird - from the panel on the printer,  just as HP used to do in the good old days.

Fwiw, here is the Windows registry workaround that worked for some.

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Scanning-Faxing-Copying/officejet-8620-pro-won-t-scan-to-emal/td-p/411...

Not sure how it works on this system though because there is no Reg key [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\outlook.exe]

Outlook isn't on my system; it's Windows Mail, and no other mail key that I can find in AppPaths.

I'll just use Windows Scan and Fax app - much quicker to load than HP Smart - and Save a Copy of the scan , then rt click it and Open Thunderbird, or start a new email in Tbird and simply Attach the file.

Pity, because, as I've said, it used to be so simple a few months ago to Scan to Email from the panel, and Tbird would pop open .. Bob's yer uncle. I guess it's MS mucking around and upsetting the HP software. Is it that hard for HP to tweak the software to recreate the earlier functionality? Same symptoms on both the ENVY 6230 and 6 yr old ENVY 5640. Win 7 was fine. And, I think, earlier versions of Win10, but can't be sure of that.
