After upgrading to MacOS Sequoia 15.3.2 on MacBookAir M1, 2020, Scan to Computer no longer works.  Attempting to Enable Scan to Computer results in error message:   Communication Error:  Unable to communicate with device...

Yet normal printing works as before and the HP Easy Scan App works - but it is not a convenient or robust as Scan to Computer has been in the past.

Hi @orlock08

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It seems like the MacOS Sequoia upgrade has caused compatibility issues with the "Scan to Computer" feature on your HP Officejet Pro 8625.

Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:

Update Printer Drivers:

  • Visit the HP Support website to check for updated drivers compatible with MacOS Sequoia 15.3.2. Installing the latest drivers can often resolve communication errors.

Reinstall HP Software:

  • Uninstall the current HP software from your MacBook Air.
  • Download and install the latest version of the HP Easy Scan app or HP Printer Assistant from the HP website.

Check Network Connection:

  • Ensure your printer and MacBook Air are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Restart your router and reconnect both devices to the network.

Enable Scan to Computer:

  • Open the HP Printer Assistant or HP Utility on your Mac.
  • Navigate to the "Scan to Computer" settings and enable the feature.

Reset Printer Settings:

  • On the printer's control panel, go to Setup > Service > Restore Defaults. This will reset the printer's settings and may resolve the communication error.

The suggested steps do not work.

Are we going to see an updated driver or easy scan version?

Hi @Hawks_Eye

We encountered the same issue. We went through the troubleshooting steps listed but still scanning doesn't work.

We tried to with another mac that has an older OS installed and on that device scanning continues to work.

We would be grateful for any advice,

David

Sorry you're having the same problem.  It helps to know I'm not the only one.

The problem persists with the Sequoia 15.4 update installed.  Mark

Hi @orlock08 ,

I managed to fix the issue thanks to the HP Smart for Desktop App (from the App Store).

I hope that will also solve the issue for you!

Yes, that works for me as well.  I've found a couple of methods which allow initiation of a scan from the computer, but am still unable to scan using the printer/scanner's front panel - which I have always found more convenient, since I'm already over at the scanner feeding it what I want to scan.  This method keeps me moving back and forth between the two devices.  It does indeed work.

Thanks.
