Finding the Base Station IP

In a typical network environment, a network Admin can assign fixed IP addresses to devices based on their MAC address. If this is not possible, or if this is a Proof of concept, then any Poly Rove Handset can be used to determine the IP address of a Rove Base station.

  • Press the menu key

    SteffenBaierUK_0-1699615708005.png

  • Enter *47*
  • The Handset will Display the Base Station(s) IP Address

    Rove_03_IP_Search_BaseIP.png

  • The Handset does not have to be paired to the base station for this above to work

  • Select a base station from the list
The signal strength displays next to RSSI, as shown below

    SteffenBaierUK_0-1699635540472.png

  • Connect to the Base Station using HTTP (not HTTPs) and use admin / admin as the default username and password

    SteffenBaierUK_1-1699618257003.png
  • A new prompt may appear to ask to change the default password

    SteffenBaierUK_2-1699618370514.png

  • Once changed please log back in with the new password

  • The next step would be to verify the currently used Software Version via Status > System Status > Product Information

    SteffenBaierUK_0-1699618722681.png

If this Single Cell is running 8.0.7 or later the new Firmware Upgrade for Rove Base,Handset or Repeater via the Web Interface can be used to upgrade the Base Station, Repeater and Handset Firmware can be used by navigating to

     System Management > Device Maintenance

    SteffenBaierUK_1-1699618829787.png

Note: You can only upgrade 1x hardware type at the same time aka uloading a Base Station Firmware will update only the base stations. The device will automatically detect the model based on the firmware.

  • Firmware 8.0.6 or older navigate to System Management > Auto Provisioning > Auto Firmware Update:

    FirmwareServer

    http://downloads.poly.com

    FirmwarePath

    /voice/dect-ip-phones/Rove/

  • The above will then periodically every 30 seconds try to connect to the Poly hosted Server and download the Base Station Software, and update any Handset or Repeater Software once connected to the Base.

Handset Registration

  • There are 2 options a Rove 20, 30, or 40 handset can be registered to a Rove B1, B2, or B4 Base Station

On the Base station initiate pairing using the web admin interface DECT Wireless > Handset Summary > Specify Handset and select which handset should be registered

    SteffenBaierUK_0-1699623754137.png

    or

Press the base station button for 5 seconds and then on the Handset Menu > Settings >
     Connectivity > Easy Registration

    SteffenBaierUK_1-1699623856077.png

The paired status number is indicated in the Display top right corner. 1st handset 1, 2nd handset 2 etc.

    SteffenBaierUK_2-1699623918571.png

  • Once successfully paired the DECT Wireless > Handset Summary > Handset Status will show the IPEI, Status with Signal Strength, Firmware Version, Firmware Update Status, what assigned Service Provider and the status,

    SteffenBaierUK_3-1699624100413.png

If a Firmware Server Version was added to System Management > Auto Provisioning > Firmware Versions and Handset Images or a Firmware was manually uploaded via System Management > Device Maintenance the devices will begin the update.

Registering Rove R8 repeater to a base station

  • Navigate to DECT Wireless > Repeaters
  • Enter the name and IPEI of the repeater. IPEI is found on the product label
  • Select Register
Note: If the repeater is showing red solid status, power cycle to initiate pairing
  • The Repeater status will show IPEI and the status of the repeater
Note: Ensure the repeater is no lower than -60 dBm or lower for a good signal from the base station
  • The maximum paired repeaters on a single B4 is 3 and the maximum repeater on B2 is 6.

    SteffenBaierUK_5-1699624383265.png

Daisy chaining Rove R8 repeaters

  • Use the same process as pairing an R8 but you have to specify the Sync Source
  • Set the Sync mode to manual.

    SteffenBaierUK_6-1699624525557.png

  • Select the repeater RPN value that you want to sync the R8 to
NOTE: When successful, the repeater status summary will show the synchronized repeaters

    SteffenBaierUK_7-1699624600791.png

  • Max repeater daisy-chain limit on B2/B4 is 3.

Enabling multi-cell on primary Rove B4

NOTE: A voice service must be registered on only one of the Rove B4 base stations. The base station with the registered service acts as the primary base station. >source<

  • On the primary Rove B4, select DECT Wireless > System and enable multi-cell
  • Provide a Meaningful Base Station Name
  • Select the SystemCombination you would like to support on this master rove B4.
    50 base stations / 3 repeaters
    127 base stations / 1 repeater
    254 base stations / 0 repeaters
  • Select Submit

    SteffenBaierUK_8-1699624739097.png

  • Reboot for changes to take effect

Enabling multi-cell on Secondary Rove B4

  • Usually after enabling Multicell on a Primary base single or multiple secondary base stations may be deployed. On the secondary Rove B4, select DECT Wireless > System and enable multi-cell
Provide a Meaningful Base Station Name.

    SteffenBaierUK_9-1699625297068.png

  • Select Submit
  • Reboot or changes to take effect

Base Station Groups

  • Select base station groups (only appears when you’ve enabled multi-cell) via DECT Wireless > Base Station Group

  • Set the primary base station and secondary base station.

Note: The initial synchronization of a base station will take 1-2 minutes.

  • A DECT Base Station needs to "see" other Base Stations  (overlap) if a Handover between base stations is expected
  • The DECT chain will show the multi-cell relationship when complete

    SteffenBaierUK_12-1699625956297.png

  • The base station group status summary will also show the connection status

NOTE: Ensure the signal strength is no lower than -60 dBm

Using a Rove 20, 30, or 40 to deploy the installation location of the Base Station in a Structure

  • On a handset press the menu key

    SteffenBaierUK_0-1699615708005.png

  • Enter *789872*
  • The Handset will Display the RPN ID of the Rove Base Stations in a Multicell Setup it can see

    SteffenBaierUK_11-1699625592869.png

    SteffenBaierUK_10-1699625565612.png

  • The dBm value displayed for a base the handset is close to should be no lower than -60 dBm.

Test the Radio Signal Strength

Using unregistered Poly Rove wireless handsets, you can test the radio signal strength in different
areas of your building. The Poly Rove wireless handsets can connect with any nearby Poly Rove base stations to get general
information, such as IP address and signal strength before the handsets are registered to a base
station. The signal strength will vary depending on if the Poly rove DECT IP phone is set up outside or the
materials in a building. Here is a general reference of possible signal strengths:
