Nothing has worked for me either.  I have a Samsung Galaxy 5 and an HP Printer.  Still frustrated and disappointed.

Note:  I also removed everything pertaining to a printer in the Samsung Android and reloaded just the one printer.  It worked for others and may have been the reason the attached solution I posted worked for me and not for others.

I only have one printer set up on my Samsung, have removed it several times and reinstalled it...so that is not my problem.  Thanks for the suggestion.

I've tried everything. The first fix, downgrading Android System WebView, worked. Then, that stopped working. Then I tried uninstalling all printer apps and turned off Samsung printer service. Then reinstalled Epson printer service (I have an Epson printer) and restarted phone... No dice.

Just throwing this out there.....make sure you give the printer plugin to load a few seconds sometimes it takes some time, and yellow circle with printer shows up. Sometimes I need to tap on the drop down arrow top right and click on all printers if my HP plugin or Samsung plugin printer options are not highlighted. Android webview app uninstall did work for me but I've had to do it a couple times.

Clear your cache, and dump the failed print jobs.

Go into printer settings on the android, choose your print service (since this is a error that all printers, not just HP is having) PS it happened since the updates near the end of 2016. (1.Clear the CACHE only) in the print service. You can clear them all, for each printer service. (2.Dump any failed print jobs).
The problem could be a memory bleed problem. Clearing the Cache works. Running only one print service, is also a great idea, until a permenant fix is created.

Clearing the cache (the entire cache, under internal storage because I'm unsure of how to just clear Epson Print Enabler) is working for me. If there is a way to just clear the cache of Epson Print Enabler (and I tried under "applications" but the cache section said "no memory used last 3 hours" and was grayed out, please let me know. So I just completely cleared internal memory cache.
So I am running (under print services) Google Cloud Print AND Epson Print Enabler, maybe I should just go with Google Cloud Print and see if it helps at all (doubtful).
Shouldn't this be an issue the Android community should be working on? Being that it's across all printers. Maybe someone can point me in the right direction and I'll post the issue.

OK, so I just disabled Epson Print Enabler and then cleared entire internal memory cache and it failed to print using Google Cloud Print. Won't print.

Then I disabled Google Cloud Print and re-enabled Epson Print Enabler and then cleared entire internal memory cache and now it won't print again. This is bull....

Have been following this thread, and I generate the same message on my Samsung Galaxy 10.1 Note (2014 edition) when I try to use the HP plugin in my e-mail apps. The previous suggestion by downgrading the Android WebView did work in my case but following through the thread list it appears that will cease to solve the problem at some point. I also have a Moto X (2nd ed) phone, using the same version of Android (namely, 5.1) as on my Samsung tablet. However, I am able to print from my Moto X phone using the same apps that fail on my Samsung tablet. My wireless HP printer is an Officejet 6500. In a very early post, it was suggested to use the HP e-print app to print e-mail messages, that won't work in a 2-step login procedure.

Should point out that Android Webview is the same version on Tablet and phone.

What I have noticed is a subtle difference between my Samsung Tablet and Moto X printer name when using the HP plugin. On the Samsung tablet, the printer name is given as "Officejet 6500 E709n [DFD818]", whilst on the Moto X the printer name is given as "Officejet 6500 E709n".  From my HP Network configuration page, the Service Name is Officejet 6500 E709n [DFD818] within mDNS.

Why does the HP plugin pickup different printer names on tablet and phone, given they are on the same wifi network?

Hi @d_moncrieff,

Good Day!! Thanks for taking an interest in the HP Support Forums. I reviewed the post about not able to print from your Samsung Tab while the Moto phone prints fine. It will be a delight to assist you. 🙂

Spectacular understanding and commendable description of the issue before posting. Kudos to you on that score. 🙂  You are a valued HP customer and it is paramount to assist you here. I take it as a privilege to share this platform with you. 🙂

For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:

  • Has it printed before from the Samsung note?
  • Have you uninstalled and reinstalled the HP print service plugin app?
  • Have you tried a different app like the Eprint app or HP all in one remote app?

  • For now please uninstall the HP print service plugin app and try to print again by reinstalling it on the Samsung Note.
  • The printer works fine as the functionality is proved from a different device.
  • If this does not do the trick for you please try the HP all in one remote app or the Eprint app. They are available on google play store.
