Just talked to Amazon. If HP will not fix the problem next Tuesday, I'll send the printer back and get my money back,

We have this issue which is affecting 40+ printers up and down the country (UK). I've just found this article regarding firmware upgrades which is causing the issue due to non-genuine Ink cartridges.

Can anyone confirm if they have this issue with genuine cartridges?

Also seems like overkill to completely BSOD a printer over some ink cartridges.

I'm only using genuine HP cartridges and I'm affected.

I have this issue with genuine cartridges directly from HP Instant Ink, so cartridges are not the cause

stop saying stupid things. the problem comes from the update. "Hp tries to drown the fish"

We only use originals, and have the same issue still.

And no response from HP Denmark

It is so frustrating...I have now arranged to send this printer back and get a refund. I have just brought another make and model..to catch up on my printing work urgently.. HP have totally let us down.

The only fix for this would be if HP had been smart enough to include a download or firmware upgrade mode in a "Pre-boot menu" , which would allow to you reflash an older version (or newer one that fixes this issue) of the firmware to unbrick the printer.

Some HP printers let you access the preboot menu, by pressing the HP logo that appears in the middle of the screen the moment the printer turns on. Someone could try that and post their results. That's how it works on some models.

So far I have seen no mention on the web of there even being a preboot menu in this printer, but you could always try it anyway and see what happens.

I'm also wondering if the printer is smart enough to realize it's not starting up after the firmware update and look for a different firmware update file on the root of a fat32 formatted USB flash drive plugged into the USB port when the printer is powered on.
