As I urgently needed a solution I did the following:
- Tried contacting HP Germany with zero success, the phone support simply isn't possible and no chat / email support available (incredible!)
- Returned the printer to Amazon Germany for "Repair" speculating on a refund (as this likely isn't repairable)
- Analyzed all currently available multi-function printers with a Dual CIS / Duplex scan functionality
- Found that unfortunately the HP OfficeJet Pro 9022e still offers the best value (by far, 300-500€ cheaper than others)
- Bought another 9022e on Amazon
- During setup I declined any firmware update but then shockingly it installed the newest firmware by itself
- To my surprise the update didn't destroy the printer this time, it now runs 005.2313A
- Nevertheless I feel that this self destruction can happen again in 1 year (default HP warranty) and so I bought the HP Care Pack 3 Years with Same-day replacement as I cannot afford any down-time
- I feel pretty bad about throwing money towards HP even though they don't deserve it but the market for Dual CIS scan inkjet printers is super limited and rather expensive
The firmware which auto-destroyed our 90xx printers is the following: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-officejet-pro-9020e-all-in-one-printer... . It was released on May 16, 2023.

This isn’t the support or advice I’ve been given .
m they keep telling me to wait 48 hours as they will fix it . But then nothing eve happens. One person told me last week it would be fixed by 7pm ghe next days…
Oh and was also told that even thought my printers in warranty that they won’t replace it because warrant only covers hardware issues not software .

My warranty ran out in March, so they won't even let me get to the point of letting them know about the issue. It is so frustrating! This should not be a warranty issue, as it seems to be the Firmware that caused it. Printer was working perfectly fine before I went away on holiday, and came back to this.

Hi Me too! Got so fed up with the lack of response or acknowledgement from HP...have returned my printer to amazon, been refunded and brought a Brother printer. I will never use HP again...they wouldn't even refund me for the inks that I had which are now stuck in the machine and the new ones are useless anyway. Shame on HP

Hi...yes it is really frustrating. I was unable to carry out most of my work as my small business prints a lot. I got fed up with HP's complete lack of communication or support and everything just dragged on. I couldn't wait any longer. I just sent my printer back yesterday as I discovered it had a two-year warranty via Amazon, so got fully refunded. I have brought a new printer (Brother) to catch up on my pile of printing work. I will never use HP again. They even refused to refund me my monthly ink costs which is despicable as the new inks were stuck in the useless printer and so I have paid for a load of inks that I simply cannot use. All in all it's a poor show on HP's part. If I had the time I would raise this to trading standards as this surely is a breach as we have been sold items that are completely unuseable.

I'm going to try to find my receipt and check when I bought it. I got it from Officeworks, so not sure I will go with it not in warranty now. I will not buy another HP ever again. They need to be accountable for this error.
