I have a D2360 conected to my D-link ADSL 2750E, which has the option of printer server. The server gives me only a URL http://192.168.1.1:631/printers/HP to conect to it. It has been printin working on Windows fine.
My Firewall is deactivated already.
On the mac though, there is no way I could make it work. I could make it work on Windows inside parallels desktop on the mac, but not inside Mac OS X Sierra. I have used CUPS 2.2.0, I have tried adding by IP 192.168.1.1:631/printers/HP, evend set up advanced settings on the Mac to add a new printer using http:// protocol. I set up the software HP Deskjet D2300 series and it adds.
It adds a new printer on the system, it says ready, connected. And when I print I get a comunication fail. "filter"failed.
I also have tried LPD, IPP, and HP JetDirect protocols, generic post script, generic pcl. Nothing worked.
Any thoughts how to solve this issue?

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. 🙂
I understand from your post that you have an HP Deskjet D2300 Printer and are unable to make it print using the protocols and options available. The printer connects with the LPD protocol that changes printer status from online to busy and does not print.
I appreciate the steps you have performed so far and have certainly done a great job. Not to worry though as I have a few suggestions.
I did some research and found that this printer is only USB capable. However, You can share your HP printer on an existing network by connecting it to an Apple AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme Base Station with a USB cable. This connection type allows you to print from more than one computer on the network. It is not necessary for your printer to have built-in network capability.
I suggest you to review the steps as described in detail from this link for Mac OS: http://hp.care/2mbHK7G
I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Let me know. All the best! 🙂

Hello@PauloAvila,
Thanks for using the HP Forums. One Stop for all sort of solutions for your HP Products.
I have read your post and understand that you need assistance in getting the printer work on Mac Sierra update. Is that, right? I will be glad to help you.
Since there are no drivers available for the latest Mac OS version, and you already have tried installing the inbuilt drivers for the PC.
I recommend you to try resetting the printing system once again and then check if the installation if the printer will work this time.

Thank you for your fast response.
I have read your post and understand that you need assistance in getting the printer work on Mac Sierra update. Is that, right? I will be glad to help you.
Not so simple. I am trying to access my HP printer conected to my router USB port (Printer Server Mode). I used to have a Canon conected there, and it worked fine. Now the Canon has broken and I can't conect to my HP D2300. Every other PC using windows in the house conects fine to it over HTTP protocol.
If I conect the printer directly on my USB port it instals and works fine. But on MacOS X http protocol to print only does not work in this printer.
If I try to print anything using my Mac conecting over Http to my router printer server, I get the filter error message.
Since there are no drivers available for the latest Mac OS version, and you already have tried installing the inbuilt drivers for the PC.
I recommend you to try resetting the printing system once again and then check if the installation if the printer will work this time.

I have deleted every printer installed, and I have reseted the printing system, installed the printer over http, and got the same error.
Pics of the process below.
Redefining printing system
Instaling Printer on Printer Server using Http protocol.
Trying to Print getting error Filter (comunication fail).
On Windows prints fine.

Hello, @PauloAvila
Thanks for the update & appreciate the detailed screenshots explaining the issue! I would like to jump in with a suggestion 🙂
Going through the screenshots, it seems that the difference is that you are using the IP protocol to print from your Windows PC. Hence, I would suggest the same step for your MAC as well.
To set up your Mac OS X computer to print to a networked printer over TCP/IP, change your settings as described below:
- From the Apple menu, select System Preferences.... In System Preferences, from the View menu, select Printers & Scanners, Print & Scan, or Print & Fax.
- Click the + (plus sign) to add a new printer.
- Next to Protocol select Internet Printing Protocol - IPP.
- Next to Address type in the IP address of the printer.
- Add the printer using the default printer drivers.
Let me know if that makes any difference!
Good luck 🙂

Unfortunately it didn't work with IPP.
It has to be with http protocol.

Hello, @PauloAvila
Thanks for the update!
You can try using the other protocols available and also try performing a network power drain. That will give you a new IP address for the printer. Here are the steps:
· Turn off all the devices connected on your network including the PC, Smartphones, printer, modem (if present) and router. Make sure all the devices in the network are turned off / unplugged.
· Wait for 2-3 minutes.
· Now turn on the modem if present. Wait till all the lights are steady and idle.
· Then turn on the router. Again wait for a couple of minutes so that the lights are all steady.
· Then turn on the printer and other devices.
Now, try adding the printer using different protocols available.
That's all I got at the moment. Let me know if that helps!
Cheers 🙂

Hi Luca, thank you for your replying with the information and you're welcome. 🙂
I understand that your printer is connected via USB to the router. The printer prints fine from a Windows notebook. But when you tried to install it on MacBook Air using the router IP address and it doesn't work.
I did some further research and found some information that should help. I request you to ignore the non-English language from the images below and carry out the steps:
- Redefining Printing System.
- Installing a Printer Server on my Wireless Router
- Installing Printer over http protocol.
Once you have carried out the steps mentioned above and if the issue persists, then please reset the printing system in Mac and then try to add the printer again in Mac. To add the printer back please follow the below steps:
- Please download the Mac inbuilt drivers from this link: http://hp.care/2flF56z.
- From System Preferences, click on Print & Scan.
- Click the Plus sign.
- Select the listed Deskjet D2300 series (This printer's drivers should work).
- Click the drop-down menu next to Use or Print Using and click on Select Printer Software.
- Select the Deskjet D2300 series from the list.
- Click OK to confirm your selection and add the printer, then try printing using the configured print queue.
I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Keep me posted. Thanks again! 🙂
