Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Since upgrading to windows 10 my Hp6510 wil only print black in faint grey.

I have tried 2 different ink cartridges.

Carried out normal and extensive print head cleaning process as well as print head alignment.

I have even removed and re-installed software as well as checking that all windows 10 updates are installed as mentioned on HP's trouble shooting page.

The other 3 colours print fine.

The same problem happens when using the direct copy function from the printer touch screen.

Any further sugestions would be appreciated as i dont reall ywant to go to the hassle of replacing what upto now has been an excellent and reliable printer.

@Jon_Lucas,

Your printer the print head is not removable, so there is no way to manually clear blocked ink.

We do not have printers with separate ink cartridge for each color, but most the HP e printers can use instant ink.

Click on the link or more information on HP Instant Ink.

it save about 50% for the average user for inks.

If you make a black copy from the front panel, does it print black?

If not, please follow the step from Printer Prints a Blank Page or Does Not Print Black or Color Ink.

Hi @Tardis 40.

Thanks for your reply to my problem.

I can confirm that i have carried out and explored all steps as suggested in your link apart from the final one of having printer serviced, as it is out of warrenty and prices i have been quoted make it not cost effective to purchasing a new printer which i would like to avoid as it seems new HP printers for regular home/everyday use do not come with single colour cartidges .

I have read that it may be possible to manually clear blocked ink from the printheads. Do you know if this is correct and if so how to do it. Any other suggestions would be gratfully reveived.

@Tardis40

Thanks once again for the reply.

I popped into my local computer store yesterday and spoke to one of the instore HP sales advisers who was extremly helpful and took the time to discus my issue with me.

Like you he informed me that the print head unit is not removeable without the great risk of it breaking. He belives the problem most probably lies within the ink pump system which has probably become blocked as it is printing colour without isse but black is only printing in greyscale.

He took the time to discuss my printing needs and the fact that i was looking for a printer with seperate inks. he was very knowledgable of the products and suggested i go for the Inkjet pro 6960 which has all the fetures i would use and in included in the HP Instant ink offer.

I have installed it today and am glad to say its a great printer and is working fine.

Thanks for all your help with my problem.

I had the same issue and didn't want to buy a new printer. I succeeded to repair my printer thanks to a Youtube video, titled "Repair black ink problem HP 6510' by M. Reinieren. It seemed that the tubes of ink pump were the problem. Now it's working again! So glad I didn't listen to the advice of HP of just buying a new one...
