hi,
Just recently i was able to print on the weekend, But today the printer is throwing a Error 11, with the toner light flashing, The web interface says Toner Supply Memory problem.
I have checked the solutions and tried cleaning the contacts, reinserting toner. No dice still shows even resetting the printer.
The toner is a genuine HP 134X, that's about 90% full. The Manufacture date code on it says 20230203. Is HP making old toner not usable ?
Only thing that changed recently is a recent Firmware update that occurred.
Is there any solutions besides throwing away a perfectly new toner ?

Ran into the same issue - guessing some fireware broke the printer to be honest. Insanely frustrating because it's my small business printer and just stopped working out of nowhere and I even replaced the tone which was a $60 expense.
Edit: I'm on firmware 20250209, have done a hard reset, and replaced the toner and it keeps throwing Error 11.

That's what i think, bad firmware update or something that made even the genuine toner bricked. Its not the physical connections or anything as no one removed the toner from the printer recently or messed with it.
I just hope an HP support tech can send us a file to revert the firmware back and see if it solves the problem or if it truely bricked the toner chip is there some sort of warranty claim we can do.

Same firmware version as you guys that just hit March 4th. Same error message as you guys. Nothing has changed on my end, and there's still plenty of ink in the cartridge.
HP owes us a firmware update or new printers.
Just to make sure they see this and the filters catch it. I'll be talking to my LAWYER and starting a CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT if this isn't fixed as soon as possible.

I called HP support and they told me that the problem is with the printer and not the firmware and that they will give me a voucher to spend at HP. So first HP breaks my printer with a malicious firmware and then forces me to buy a new one with a voucher. This is the scam of the century!

March 10. Error 11. Spent an hour on this yesterday navigating various HP websites. I'm beyond frustrated that there is no phone number or email for real-time tech support unless you buy a support plan that will bill monthly.
I'm glad to find this community, but the hard reset didn't work; cleaning contacts didn't work.
I got fed up with the ink toner subscription after being billed for printing too many pages in a month. Then they sent the wrong cartridge; I called them and they promised to send a new one which never arrived. When I purchased a toner cartridge I was sent flag messages that my subscription was in jeopardy, but they kept billing anyway.
We're buying a new printer and it won't be HP.

Same exact thing happened to me. We've printed less than 100 pages since December after putting a brand new (expensive) HP toner cartridge into the printer. The cartridge was supposed to yield 2,400 pages.
Everything was fine until the other night when I heard the printer turn itself on and the light turned amber. Hours of troubleshooting have not fixed the issue and then I saw an article about this happening to other people.
I am completely disgusted with HP. This needs to be fixed immediately at no cost to consumers. We didn't break our printers -- HP did.
Because we needed to print documents for one of my husband's classes, we bought an Epson ET-2850. I guess the HP is just a huge paperweight now until HP does right by their customers.

Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The Error 11 (Toner Supply Memory Problem) on your HP LaserJet MFP M234dw after a recent firmware update is likely due to HP’s Dynamic Security feature, which can block older or non-genuine cartridges—even if they worked fine before.
Reinsert and Clean Contacts Again
- Turn off the printer, unplug it, and remove the toner.
- Gently clean the chip and contacts on the toner and printer with a lint-free cloth and isopropyl alcohol.
- Reinsert firmly and restart.
Downgrade the Firmware (If Possible)
- If the issue started after a firmware update, HP may have added new DRM restrictions.
- Check if your printer allows firmware rollback via the HP Support website.
Use the HP Smart App or Printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS)
- Access HP Smart or go to the printer’s IP address in a web browser.
- Look for an option to disable HP Cartridge Protection (if available).
Check for Newer Firmware or Workaround
- HP sometimes releases new firmware after backlash from customers.
- Check HP’s website for an update that might fix the issue.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
